During an interview with a leading daily, Taapsee revealed that even after becoming a star in South-Indian films she had a hard time finding herself a home in Mumbai. 'As a single person in Mumbai, I had trouble finding houses. Nobody wanted to give their apartment to a single working girl, that too an actress. They said things like, Struggling actors aajaate hain aur unke paas paise nahin hote hain'. I had the toughest time trying to convince them that I had the money to pay my rent, she said.

When asked if she ever regretted her choice of becoming an actor, she said, 'On camera, I am in heaven, I love my job. That's what keeps me going. Off camera, there are things that I feel yenahin

hoga mujhse this is not something I can do. The struggle is harder when you don't come from a film family. Sometimes you get rejected just because you don't come from an influential background so that kind of breaks your heart a lot of times. At that time to pick yourself up is difficult. In such times you think kahan aa gaye, ya kyun aa gaye.''

Talking about much talked about industry nepotism, the actor said, "There are so many times our presence is not valued as much as a star kid's presence even though they haven't earned that space which people like us have slogged for. We have worked from scratch to be where we are. Despite that, we are very easily taken out of a project, and that hurts.''

Luckily for her, the actress has made good friends in both the South film industry as well as in Bollywood, something that she has worked on. Talking about her co-star Akshay Kumar, she said, ' Akshay Sir, whenever he meets me anywhereis so warm and encouraging. Poori film bana di mere liye and he himself took a backseat, so what more can I ask for?

@red : This makes sense... I am sure all outsiders have gone through this at some point in their career.

Jealousy n continous digs at Star kids wont take outsiders far. Who are u to decide who earned or deserved it more? Just bcoz u are outsider does not mean u deserve more than an Alia automatically.

Film families also toiled hard n earned to give their kids a easier life. Just like she wud do for her kids. Aur, Camera ke saamne unke khud k mehnat hai. Parents cannot force audience to come n watch their films.

If u remove Nepotism, Bahubali wud not hv been made. Bcoz everybody from Rajamouli to Prabhas to Rana are ALL from Film families. Some of our Best directors, Music directors, Best films have all been done by Star kids.

U struggled to reach where u are. But, dont expect extra sympathy for that. Every new person entering film field has to start off somewhere. U are neither the first person nor the only person.

Ash, Deepika, Anushka,PC just silently do their work. Even Katrina is so so better than all these attention seekers. Not once does she keep on playing victim saying "Look how far i hv come though am a Foreigner who entered a Foreign country with Foreign language". Grow up!

She looks terribly bad in this pic...
I don't know why people are targeting star kids forever...yes they have it easier but its not their fault that they were born in a filmy family...and star kids or outsiders ...it doesn't matter...at the end its the audience who makes or breaks u...not ur connections...so many outsiders like SRK, Akki, PC, Deepu, Katrina, Kangna made it big despite being outsiders...so don't whine...keep striving👍🏼

Does she have short memory or what ? During Naam shabnam she supported the star kids to skies now when the movie tanked she took the u turn and slams them ? Hypocrite !

Details of her interview:

But Pannu, who plays the title role in Naam Shabana, refuses to play the victim card.
"It's not like I didn't know about it when I entered this industry... I am proud to be an outsider and I am going to use that to connect to my audience... Think about it, I wouldn't have got films like Pink and a title role in Naam Shabana if nepotism ruled... I have never felt victimised or suppressed, said Pannu, One thing is easier is that being an outsider, we don't carry a lot of expectations, which star kids do," she told Rediff.com. "Even before a star kid wants to become an actor, they start receiving flak for anything and everything. If it was me, I would have probably gotten scared and run away."
