That cold spell of winter was slowly fading away. The chilly air now had an undertone of warmth as the frozen ground sprouted into life again, the shivering buds gently rose up their little heads welcoming the soft knock of spring.
Closing the novel she was reading, Nandini gently took in the soft spring air smiling wide to herself. How much she loved this time of the year!
It meant no more mugs of steaming hot chocolate with extra marshmallows but then you don't need an excuse for hot chocolate do you?! Stuffing the novel back in her backpack, she got up quickly for there was just 2 minutes for the bell to ring.
She couldn't afford to be late for physics, Mrs Marx and her frosty glare isn't something very welcoming.
The bell rang at the exact time, filling up the corridors with chattering students. Some trudged along for further classes, while others walked leisurely towards the canteen, as they had their next few hours free. The new book she was reading was another Nora Roberts classic, a heartwarming romance and she decided to tell about it to Di, and even suggest her to read it on call after classes.
Too engrossed in her thinking, she didn't notice whom she was walking into. If two hands hadn't steadied her then she would've fallen flat on her face, earning some good public humiliation.
"Watch where you're going.."
She looked up at the husky yet gentle voice only to find herself staring at a pair of two gorgeous walnut eyes she had ever seen. His soft breaths fanned her face while those eyes showed splashes of concern.
"I.. I'm sorry.." Nandini flustered, tucking a soft curl behind her ear.
"Are you okay?" He asked again, gently, as a smile played on his lips.
"Y..Yes I am." She replied, amused as to why she was fumbling? She never did.
He was kind enough to help her pick up her books that had fallen off in the bump. She solely wanted to keep her eyes to herself but they wandered onto him as they took in his handsome form in a white angry bird t-shirt and denims.
But what took her attention more had to be the red sneakers he was wearing. Definitely a stand out!
He picked up her novel and gave a sweet goofy smile as his eyes fell on the genre. Well, she was used to guys giving her weird looks for it. His was considerably friendly.
"Thank you. She added politely making him nod and hurried away to avoid any further conversation, to be honest. And Mrs Marx won't be pleased at all to know that she was late to class cuz she bumped into a guy in the corridor, well a good looking guy!
In Physics, she kept her concentration supercharged cuz this was the subject she wanted to nail right in it's head.
Her grades were extraordinary but physics seemed to get a better off her.
She may have been to stubborn to admit but her mind did wander to the guy she'd bumped into.
Was he a student? But she hadn't seen him around and admissions at this time of the year? Plus wasn't he a bit overage to be a student?
By lunchtime, it wasn't just her, the whole University was thinking rather talking out loud about him. The cat was out of the bag, the guy wasn't some student rather an ace photographer Ibaad Ashraf who was here for one of his project which dealt which different stages of human life and teenage being one.
The girls gushed over him, The guys shot him daggers as he walked into the cafeteria. The silence that fell as soon as he had walked in was deafening considering lunch time was the liveliest period of all.
But he didn't seem to mind that as he sat down on one of the corner tables keeping his photography gear down and rubbed his eyes a bit.
Well, she didn't have the whole day to sit and stare at him!
Ibaad was surprised when a cup of steaming hot cappuccino was brought to his table cuz he hadn't ordered anything yet.
But there was a tissue with it which had a Thank You. written in neat handwriting with a smiley.
Well, he didn't had to stress his memory to remember who this was.
The sun was warm and that made it a perfect day to wander outside in the grounds. Students could be seen chatting, gossiping and some were studying as well.
Nandini rubbed her hands together before opening up her textbook to study, tests were around the corner and she needed to ace them like always.
The flash of the camera distracted her as she looked up to find those deep walnut eyes smiling at her as he adjusted his lenses. Ibaad waved at her and she waved back at him gently.
Within seconds, he was there beside her as she gasped softly at the thickening of his musk cologne around her.
"Ibaad Ashraf." He forwarded his hand to her.
"I know. Nandini." She smiled a bit and shook his hand.
"That's a pretty name. Did your parents name you after Aishwarya Rai's character? Cuz let me confess, she was an actual beauty in that movie." Ibaad replied cutely.
"I guess so. Though she's like the world's most beautiful woman and I well.. look at me!" She chuckles at her own joke.
"I am and I think you're beautiful." He complimented her huskily.
Crimson rose up in her cheeks tinting them pink, as she looked away.
"Thank you." She added softly.
"Well, I should thank you for the coffee." He smiled at her cuteness.
"I don't know what you're talking about?" Nandini trailed off, shrugging.
"Yes you do. Though do you want to see the snap that I captured?" Ibaad offered to show her and indeed the shot was beautiful, with her being engrossed in her book.
"It's beautiful!" She replied, awed.
"Well, I capture whenever I see beauty. You're definitely one." Ibaad looked at her and she had to look away, shyly.
Her first homecoming ball was supposed to be fun not boring, but it was definitely turning out to be.
Nandini observed the people around her bored as she stood in a far corner with a paper glass that had some cola.
The party was supposed to be fun if you were a fan of booze, drunk dancing with some stupid music or ppl making out in a corner.
Finishing the remaining cola in her glass, she looked down at herself thinking what a waste she did of her favorite anarkali and spent an hour dressing up for this party while all she wanted to do was lay down in her bed with some pizza and binge watch her favorite shows on Netflix.
Throwing away the glass, she made out of the hall deciding to call it a night when in the university field someone held her wrist.
"Going home already?" She turned to find Ibaad smiling.
"Yes. I can't stand it anymore." Ibaad had to smile at her cuteness.
"I thought it was supposed to be fun?!" He gestured towards the hallway, good humoredly.
"Trust me, It isn't." She shook her head, when the blaring music changed to a soft number.
"This song is my jam. Dance with me?" Ibaad offered his hand to her.
"I think, I should get going. It's late." Nandini replied, unsure.
"Please, just a dance. I'll drop you home I promise." He requested cutely, and she didn't have the heart to turn him down.
She gave her hand in his, only to be pulled gently towards him. Ibaad wrapped his arms around her gently as both swayed to the music.
His musk cologne was creating a havoc in her senses, the closeness was affecting her much more than she had thought.
"You look beautiful, tonight." Ibaad spoke up huskily.
Nandini could feel the crimson rising up in her cheeks, it wasn't that she hadn't been complimented before but his words felt different.
"Thank you. Though I may be the odd one out here." She replied smiling as Ibaad twirled her around only to pull her closer in his arms.
"Trust me, you aren't. You look refreshingly different from all those body plunging dresses with fake tan, nails and makeup." He looked down into her eyes this time. Walnut into Dark Brown.
And then it happened as the clock chimed 12. He pressed his lips to her softly yet unsure.
The world spun anticlockwise at just the touch of his lips as her eyes closed and she kissed him softly. He responded gently and when they moved apart a smile was so constant on their faces.
"How about I walk you home?" Ibaad asked tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Sounds Perfect." She smiled shyly, holding his hand.
