I really love this Strong Diya. In her place, many brides would have been horror-struck and passive when their fiance abandoned them. Diya too was shocked initially. But she did not like to view her father bowing down before Abhay to beg him to marry and even tried to stop him, before being compelled by her mother. Moreover, when Abhay tried to slap Ratan back, she did not let Abhay hurt her best friend and articulated all our thoughts. She told Abhay that he can't break her, that she is proud of her past decisions and that she was glad that she didn't marry a guy like him. Though Abhay may not have realised it, he was the one who was left humiliated at the end of this entire debacle.
It is really gratifying to see such a strong female lead. Diya represents today's women. In most shows, usually when the female lead is abandoned by her fiance (usually for revenge), we usually see her crying buckets of tears and then going to the fiance's house and fighting for her fights. This is what is typically presented as a strong female lead, though many of us know it to be false. Here we have a female lead who accepts her broken marriage, gives it back to her ex-fiance and tells him that he has no power over her or her life. This is one of the greatest examples of a strong female lead for me.
