God spare is the taliban wannabe brigade- first Karni Sena and now this all over a pure masala as Bollywood as possible movie. If anything the movie glorifies Khilji. He was shown as an adorable goofy villain?/ antagonist( in no way menacing . His killing of people was shown as pure camp). The movie felt like two different movies - one of Khilji and Kafur which was fun, camp with gleeful villainy and the other about Ratan and Padmavati - very serious holier than thou straight out boring. Anybody who takes this movie seriously is I don't know what to say.

I think SLB should stop making movies based on historical figures and if want to adapt any book or poem should do full justice to it.Which seems to be difficult task for SLB.

This forums amuses me blind fans calling other people blind, just for disagreeing with the film maker vision. Can not even handle any criticism

So most scholars rejected that vision of Khilji which some counter attacked me with the debate that I had about him last time.

SLB historical movies are a nightmare for the actual historians, who take this academia seriously.

Well issue personally for me is not questioning portrayal of Khilji. Yes I know Khilji was not a nomad savage as shown in the movie. And if anyone finds it inaccuarate, they have the right to criticize. And fans of the movie have the right to correct them, it is clearly told in the start that the movie has no resemblance with either the Khiljis nor the Rajputs and it is a fictional tale based on fictional poem.

For me the issue is giving the movie a religious angle by saying it is anti-Islam.
The movie nowhere says or tries to show Muslims are bad nor that Khilji was bad because he was muslim.
Now Khilji of SLB is even shown as a non-religious person who considered himself God and whole his army is busy reading namaaz, and he is waiting to see Padmavati full in lust.

Khilji was shown as a villain and he will always remain a villain for the Rajputs as no colonial considers their invader hero. No matter how much good they did back home. Because their negatives always outweigh their positives. Like English also brought many reforms and it is because of them today we are one nation (yes Pakistan and Bangladesh parted because of this very religious bullshit, but it happened so cannot do anything) today. But that does not make them good or hero, because they will always remain villain in our psyche.

I am no fan of SLB, if anything I am very vocal in expressing my dislike for him. But these silly politically driven stuffs against him is stupid. First Right winged trashed him and than now left winged are trashing him. Yes he is a stupid dude, who uses his PR to make sensational aura around his movie and his movies are generally boring and average(like if Padmavat did not had Kafur and Khilji it would have been bloody boring). But it does not mean people have the right to twist and give new political and religious meaning to his movies, when it is simple they are not such.

THIS sums up the crux of people's objection to the depiction of Khilji in the movie.

The film's trailer paints Khilji as a menacing barbarian, complemented by Flowing hair and a wayward bushy beard, draped in a rough, woolly-like costume. His habitation is depicted as a dark dungeon that befits a pirate in the common imagination, as propounded by the Hollywood, rather than a great king.

On the contrary, the sultans of Delhi lived in aesthetically decorated palaces with ornate designs that were often adorned with precious stones. They were robed in the finest of silk and velvet clothes, often etched with baroque motifs and appealing designs. The sultans were highly civilised in their mannerisms, including in their gastronomic pursuits unlike what has been shown in the movie where one of the scenes depicts Khilji gobbling up a piece of meat in a fashion that fits a savage.

There is no doubt that Khilji was a carnal fiend who did not spare any woman or boy in his harem and the ones he captured from kingdoms he conquered. But he did not dress like a savage, eat like a Neanderthal, or live in a dark dungeon type place.

In both the TV serial and comic book on Rani Padmini, Khilji looked like a villain but he is dressed in fine robes like a Sultan would, he lives in a lavish sultanate type palace and eats fine cuisine like Sultans used to.

These articles are objecting to Khilji's caricaturish presentation in the movie as opposed to Padmini's and Ratan's uber somber and regal characters.

After all the ruckus that Kerni Sena made about this, decided to go and read the poem. The poem seems to be different then what SLB made, even the poet did not describe Khilji as such what was shown.

I agree about one thing no matter how bad film maker SLB is he did not deserve the treatment he got from these political parties. The thing is Khilji can not be counted as an invader, as he was born in subcontinent as a matter of in Bengal. Rajputs were already famous for their inner fighting, that anyone would take advantage of the fact and conquer them. Like the British took advantage of inner fighting among Hindu & Muslims, they created such a big divide that still exist today.

I guess its human tendency to remember bad and forget the good.

The Karni sena will ban me from India if I write a fifty shades of greyesque Khilji/Padmavati fan fiction. Heck I think some forum members might even wage war against me.
