CHAPTER 22
ALL THE NAMES & PLACES ARE FICTITIOUS (if any resemblance to persons & places is purely coincidental). Any royal titles, MEDICAL PROCEDURES, MEDICAL TERMS, MILITARY PROCEDURES, MILITARY TERMS, Punjabi terms, architectural terms, IT terms & programs, office hierachy, wedding rituals, etc. are from my imagination hence THEY ARE NOT TRUE. Then there was a pin drop silence which was finally broken by sound of ambulance sirens. ACP rushed both Geet and Rahul to the ambulance. Both Geet and Rahul were unconscious and bleeding. ACP went in the ambulance with Geet and Rahul as Rahul was only surviving villian among the four. As there was no more place in the ambulance with one paramedic, hence, Maan was forced to drive in his car. But before going to the hospital, Maan went to his father's room where he briefed Rishabh and Adi about what had happened. Maan asked Rishabh and Adi to stay with Garima and the triplets! But Rishabh threatened to tell Garima and triplets the truth about Geet if Maan didn't take Adi with him to the hospital. Once Maan and Adi left, Rishabh called Vicky. By the time Maan and Adi reached the hospital, doctors had finished examining Geet and Rahul. Dr. Sudha Raghupathi came out and said in anger, "MAAN, WHY CAN'T YOU TAKE CARE OF YOUR WIFE! First she was alone during her miscarriage, then she delivered triplets without you being present and now again you have made her pregnant. I had told you that I have to operate her as soon as possible. Now a days children are so irresponsible!"
"PREGNANT? Aunty but..."
"Maan, doctors are currently operating on Geet's shoulder to remove her bullet."
"BULLET??"
"Maan I'm really surprised, DO YOU EVEN LOVE YOUR WIFE?" Dr. Sudha Raghupathi walked back to the OT (Operation Theatre) fuming, where she had come from. Maan collapsed on sofa nearby muttering to himself, "Geet ko goli lagi hai...Geet is pregnant...Mai Geet ko phirse nahi baccha paya...Geet ko goli lagi hai...Geet is pregnant...Mai Geet ko phirse nahi baccha paya...Mai Geet ko phirse nahi baccha paya..." (Geet was shot...Geet is pregnant...Again I was unable to save my Geet...Geet was shot...Geet is pregnant...Again I was unable to save my Geet...Again I was unable to save my Geet...)
Seeing Maan's state and also that Maan was not responding to Adi's questioning him, Maan looked as if he is in another world! Adi at once called Rishabh. Half an hour later, Rishabh and Garima were at the hospital. Garima went and put her hand on Maan's shoulder. Seeing Garima, Maan at once hugged his mother saying, "Mom, I've failed as a husband and as a lover!"
"Nahi beta, yeh sach nahi hai..." (No its not true Maan you have...)
"Haan Maan tum..." (Yes you have...) Rishabh started getting annoyed on Maan. But when Rishabh got a furious glare from Garima he stopped and getting a signal from Garima's eyes, Rishabh left with Adi to do formalities regarding Geet's surgery?
"Maan tumhei aisa kyun lagta hai ki tum ek acche pati (husband) nahi ho?" (Maan, why do you feel that you are not a good husband?) Maan narrated what all happened in his cabin once Garima had left and how Geet saved him. Garima calmed Maan down and said, "Maan jab woh chaaron ek dusare ko marne-maarne par tule huye the toh tum kya kar sakte the? Aur waise bhi tumhari peeth toh Dev ki taraf thee tumhei kaise patta chalta ki woh tum par goli chalanewala hai. Tum chinta matt karo beta, mai abhi Sudha se baat karke aati hoon." (Maan the four of them were hell bent on killing each other at the drop of hat so what could you do? Besides your back was facing Dev, so how could you know that he is about to shoot you? You don't worry, I'll talk to Sudha.)
Just then a doctor in bloody scrub came out of the OT and said, "Whose is here from Mrs. Gayatri Maan Singh Khurana's family?" Maan and Garima at once rushed. "Doctor, how is my wife?"
"I'm cardiologist Dr. Venkatesh Padmanabhan. Mr. Khurana, luckily the bullet did not penetrate very deep, hence, I have removed it. But for next few months Mrs. Khurana's left hand's mobility will be reduce I hope you all will help her?"
"Off course doctor there is no question about it! What about her pregnancy?" Garima enquired.
"I'm afraid Ma'am you will have to ask that to Dr. Raghupathi. Due to such a major physical trauma to Mrs. Maan Singh Khurana's body, chances of "miscarriage" are high!"
"When can I take my wife home, doctor?"
"Mr. Khurana, she has to be here in hospital for at least 8-10days."
"But we have three small children. What do I tell them as they had seen her just before that horrific encounter?"
"Mr. Khurana you as their father and your family here will have to tell them the truth as gently as possible. I suggest you call Mrs. Gayatri Khurana's mother to assist you for sometime. Excuse me!"
Once Dr. Padmanabhan had left, Garima calmly tried to explain to her son, "Maan beta, kyunki Geet ki pregnancy ki situation itni tense hai, iss liye Sudha ko tum par gussa aa gaya." (Maan as Geet's pregnancy is high risk hence Sudha is tense and therefore got annoyed at you.)
"Nahi Maa, Sudha aunty ne bilkul theek kaha thaa ki Geet aur mujhe savadhaani barthni chahiye thee jab Geet ka operation hona zaruri thaa." (No Mom. Sudha aunty is absolutely right that Geet and I should have been careful especially when Geet's surgery was so urgent!)
With coaxing and cajoling by Garima, both mother and son entered Dr. Sudha Raghupathi's cabin.
Garima wished Dr. Raghupathi, "Hello Su! How are you?"
"I'm not at all fine. Garima, tum aur poora Khurana Khandaan, Gayatri ko kya samjhata hai? Bacche paida karne ki machine!" (I'm not at all fine. Garima, what do you and whole of Khurana household think of Gayatri? That she is just a machine to produce kids?)
"Sudha tum itna gussa kyun ho?" (Sudha why are you so angry?)
"Rima, I had forewarned you all that Geet's uterus is not strong and healthy and she has to undergo an "hysterectomy" (removal of uterus) and yet she became pregnant. As if that was not enough to complicate matters now she is undergoing a surgery for her bullet wound!" Dr. Raghupathi paused to catch a breath and then continued, "Anyway as her Gynaecologist, I will put few facts straight. First as her uterus is not in a healthy state, there is a high chance of miscarriage ! Ideally its better to abort the foetus but I know Geet won't agree for it. Second, even if we don't abort the foetus, due to her "Endometriosis" there is a high chance of miscarriage hence its an extremely a "high risk" pregnancy hence "spotting" is very likely to occur! Third point is that Geet's delivery cannot be a normal even if her pregnancy completes term, it will have to be a "Caesarean" birth." There was a knock on the door and the nurse entered, "Doctor you are needed..."
Maan and Garima came out of the Dr. Raghupathi's cabin in a state of shock and collided with Rishabh and Adi. Khuranas being the trustee of the Hospital were given the Presidential Suite. Hence, Rishabh, Garima, Maan and Adi went inside the suite giving them privacy for discussion. Garima narrated to Rishabh and Adi what all Dr. Raghupathi had said.
Rishabh finally lost his temper which he was controlling since he came to hear about Geet collapsing, "Dr. Raghupathi bilkul sahi keh rahi hain. Maan ne naa tok ek pati ka aur naa hi ek pitah ka koi bhi kartavye poora nahi kiya hai. MAAN YOU ARE A FAILURE AS A HUSBAND AND A FATHER." (Dr. Raghupathi is absolutely right! Maan neither have you properly fulfilled the duties of a husband nor a father. MAAN YOU ARE A FAILURE AS A HUSBAND AND A FATHER.)
"RISHABH, KYA KAHA TUMNE? (Rishabh, what did you say?) A voice thundered.
