I kept on wondering why Diya's father who was so adamant to not forgive her (in spite of her doing the right thing) when she came back in ready to forgive Ratan so much.

I saw two reasons.

In case of Diya, in a typical patriarchy, he is expected to provide and protect her. Her taking up a job where she needs to sacrifice 12 years of her life reflected badly on him as a father.

If it was just worry for her happiness, he would have been more worried about her than her marital status (resultant taunts he got from various people).

But for him the reputation of him as doing his duty as father counts more. I am not blaming him for it. He is bred in that environments. He could not forgive himself for letting that happen.

And in case of Ratan, it was him who was doing mistakes and it easy to forgive others than forgiving yourself.

One more thing I noted it that Ratan is like the son which he never had and that also is a reason his apology is enough for him to melt.

Diya's father still sees Ratan as kid most of the time...even when he says they should treat him as adult. Plus he is still someone else's kid and you don't stay mad/expect much from someone else's kid. you expect it from yours only.
Diya's father was angry for three reasons according to me ...some that you have captured

1) he felt he has failed her as a father. it was his responsibility to get her settled in life and yet here she is having to give all that up because of his friend who once saved her life. in a way in his eyes, she is being asked to give up her life itself

2) he is deeply hurt that she choose maan's selfish wishes over him...they were once very close and he feels he will always comes first for her.

3) he is part of a very closed society where he (and very few others) are seen as pail bearers of tradition and heritage and the way things should be. their society looks up to them. that is their role. to be the upholders of what they want in their society. with his daughter leaving him and going off to be a protector for ratan, he someone feels he has not served that tradition duty well ...people around him might have made it a point to poke that in his face as well as can happen in small closed communities.

that is making him feel like failure on multiple fronts and that his honour now stands maligned. he is taking it out on the family and the one person who he loves immensely, had tons of expectations from and feels has let him down.

hopefully makers will show him making amends at some time in future.
