EDT~ ep. 58~10.1.18, My stance.. Strange old world
Peculiar, and out of the ordinary this episode. A bizarre mix of real and unreal issues and events. We see a wife with a partial memory, her husband fighting for life and both are influenced by an agitated, ill at rest spirit from the wife's past. We also see the influences of staunch belief and traditional practices in the wife's outlook of life.
It's Karvachauth, all about a husbands longevity. For Sharanya she's off to an unknown battlefield, from whence she may or may not return alive. Yet her worship in life is now to grant her husband his life ,even if it means forfeiting her own life. She'll be blessed to die as a married woman.This precept she is taught by the traditions handed down to her by her ancestors. So Sharanya simply upholds what is ingrained in her.
Strange old world, oddly familiar. The snow capped peaks pointing to the heavens, the rising mists, the coniferous forests.. Shranaya... they seem to whisper, You have been here before. But she drives on, determined, motivated to complete the task at hand. A supplication before the Kapali Maata to grant Vyom's his life!. It's bizarre but she has company, the bloodshot eyed grim entity seen in the mirrors. Shiv's powers make her stop the car, at a sharp turning point..She comes out of the car. Her memory clears, she gets a peek in her past. Now present day, she recalls she knocked over a cyclist by her reckless driving! unbelievable , it's the spirit, the man in the mirrors. Then just in a flash she realizes why the spirit haunts and Vyom?? she killed him, accidently ?or on purpose? She's unsure. But she gets her answer, resumes her mission, next stop Kapali temple to offer tearful supplications before the merciful goddess to save Vyom's life..
Alongside, weirdly enough, she senses the presence of the spirit.. close but never before her, face to face. Again Sharanya feels that her mission at Kapali hills is to save Vyom's life, but within her lies the wish to learn more about her two years erased past. However, Sharanya, to continue the plot, continues to be oblivious of the fact that the spirit might be able to throw light on her foggy past.
To me the episode is a combat between righteousness and wickedness. Kapali Maata's temple precinct is sacred ground. All evil, fears entering its parameters. Sharanya's journey towards the temple reminds me of Vyom's frantic dash to the very Kapali Maata s temple praying to save Sharanya's life. Now she repays his debt ,as his wife. Her offerings of chunari and vermillion.. are a plea to Maata she brings as Vyom's devoted wife. Save her husband..
There is no doubt for me that Shiv the spirit is painted as a product of evil principalities. His energies are seen as negative and sinful , whereas Maata's are seen as positive ,pure and holy. Many faiths believe, that the devil has the power to distract worshipers, especially during their communication with the divine being. Shiv in calling Sharanya ,namely, desperately, angrily, authoritatively, all are geared to divert and sidetrack her from pouring forth her supplications before Maata to grant her husband Vyom's life.
But have to say Shiv's images upon his knees, outside the temple boundary, serves as a chilling reminder perhaps, that in the fight between virtue and vice, virtue does emerge victorious...
However Shiv's character for me, does evoke more pathos and less evil for Sharanya . He wants to tell her details about her past. Only she chooses to accept Maata's assistance than a spirit's , which she deems as evil..
One line of Sharanya's in her pleas before Maata to grant Vyom's life ,stands in my mind... she begs Maata grant Vyom who almost died for me, his life..makes me think.. is she aware of the one named ,Shiv ,the spirit who actually died for her??
Sharanya, to me is still unaware of the one who loves, loved her? who is the true love of her life?? Shiv's recities.. "old times will visit us again. "The fire in my heart, is in the air. In the form of blood, the red colour of it , resembles love... so this strange journey into the old world, reveals more for her collection ,than just her husband's life... hamlet53 11.1.18
Exciting episode, fantastic outdoor shoot of Kapali hills. Namik as Shiv along with Donal ruled the episode.. certainly a great watch for me , first sighting of Namik. Tomm... very interesting , Sharanya is once again, frantically saving someone's life.. from being drawn in by the glaze of ice... its Shiv this time??
