In an attempt to justify Nimki and her father's characterisation, the makers showed us the flashback of what had happened to Nimki's mother..
Nimki's mother was a good singer and an ambitious woman. When she got a chance to prove herself she went against her husband and chose her career. Monl was a baby then. However, Mahua didnt seem to be that young to not know her mother had left them all of a sudden.
This does justify why Nimki doesn't want to make a career of her own but instead want a rich husband who would keep her happy. Probably she believes Rambachan's poverty made her mom frustrated to do something like that. Thats why she believes its the duty of the husband to fulfill his wife's wishes however weird they might be. She wants her husband to do everything her father failed to do as a husband. But admist everything she is as ambitious and self absorbed as her mother. Her mother knew shw was a great singer. Nimki knows she is beautiful. Her mother didnt care about he children while pursuing her dreams. Nimki doesn't want to care about anything when its about her dreams.
Rambachan has lost a dear one by stopping her from fulfilling her dreams. He doesn't want to repeat the same mistake by stopping Nimki from fulfilling her dreams.
