That Still Small Voice
In the palace, the Queen was in her chamber standing near the windows watching the bloodline trees when Aradhana entered her chamber.
"My Queen," she curtsied.
The Queen turned around to look at her. She felt the happiness in the tone of her voice today which was missing from so many days.
"It seems that you have some good news to share with me. Isn't it?" she said narrowing her eyes.
"You are right my Queen and it is all because of you," she said curtsying once more in front of her.
"So share the news," said the Queen in a happy voice.
"Following your suggestion my Queen of meeting the man who Tara loves once, I met him yesterday. Tara brought him home," said Aradhana and stopped.
"And?" asked the Queen in excitement. She was excited to know whether her son passed the test or not.
"And I liked her choice. He is the man that any mother would dream of for her daughter," she said.
The Queen took a deep breath, walked towards Aradhana and hugged her, "Congratulations Aradhana!
"Thank you, my Queen," she said parting from the hug.
"But why are you congratulating me?" Aradhana was surprised seeing the Queen so happy.
She didn't know that the queen's happiness was because her son was accepted by Aradhana for her daughter.
"Ohh..." said the Queen, thinking what to give as an excuse because she was happy for her son.
"I am happy for Tara, for you, for all of us. You know how much we all love Tara. Finding a good man for a daughter is difficult," she said in a sweet tone blinking her eyes.
"I wish her father would have been with us to meet the man that she has chosen," said Aradhana sadly.
"He already knows the man. He himself has trained him," said Nirmala in her mind. Her face lost the joy that had spread mere moments ago.
Seeing the Queen sad, Aradhana said, "Your Majesty, I should leave." She curtsied and walked away.
Seeing her leave, the Queen returned to the window from where the bloodline trees were visible. Mrityunjay's tree was glowing brighter than ever. After he had touched the Pearl and broken the spell, it was as if the tree was more connected to him now. There were many new leaves on it and most of the branches were filled with flowers. The beauty of the tree was breathtaking. The Queen smiled seeing it.
Two hands circled around her waist and hugged her from her back.
"When did you walk in?" she questioned, taken aback by this gesture of the King.
"I walked in when my wife was busy in her thoughts," he said chuckling. She turned to face him and hugged him closing her eyes, and curled herself in his arms.
"It's been a long time that we have had such peaceful time," she said taking a deep breath.
"Yes my love, after the Prince had returned, there has been time to relax a bit," he said rubbing her back. He was watching the trees from the window and remembered how before the birth of each child Nirmala had planted them.
"Although everything could never be the same again," he said watching the three trees standing tall, representing their three children.
Nirmala felt the sadness in his voice that he always had when he recalled the birth of their first son. She wanted to tell him everything starting from their son being alive to the breaking of the curse. But she thought to let the time decide for itself when to reveal the truth.
"The Prince is doing well. He has recovered very well under the Princess's observation," she said parting herself from the hug.
"Yes he is," said Jayraj tracing a circle on her palm.
"I think we should sit and talk rather than standing here the whole day," said the Queen chuckling.
She wanted the King to move away from the window because the longer he stood there, the greater were the chances that he would realize that his eldest son was alive and also she wanted her husband to smile. The King smiled and walked away from the window with his arm still wrapped around her and smiling.
