The Family Business
When Tara returned home, she was a bit tired with today's events. First knowing about Mrityunjay's real identity, then that small fire and now a formal introduction of Mrityunjay to her Mom, which was not a complete introduction. By that it meant not mentioning his real identity. But yes it was a bit too much in a single day.
Tara smiled remembering how after the fire took place, Mrityunjay said it was her jealousy which caused the fire. She thought to herself how good it would be if by just thinking or moving her fingers or snapping them would keep all things in place or maybe just move them a little. She laughed at her thoughts and started to do her work of arranging the utensils with her actual hands, but the thought of snapping her fingers to move them didn't leave her. When she was done, she thought to snap a finger for fun and she did. Before she could see what happened, her mother called her and she left, unknowingly moving the pot at which she had snapped her finger.
In the bedroom, Aradhana was sitting with a wedding dress in her hand.
"Wow!!" said Tara looking at the wedding dress.
"Is this yours?" she inquired. Aradhana nodded her head in a yes.
"I was keeping things away when I found this and thought you might like to see this," said Aradhana with sad eyes, remembering her husband whom she had missed all these years and today she missed him a lot.
Tara took the wedding dress from her and folded it carefully seeing it was bringing more of past memories to her mother. When she was keeping it in her mother's cupboard, she saw a book.
She grabbed the book and asked her mother, "What's this?"
Aradhana took a deep breath after seeing what Tara possessed and said, "That's more like a lore which is passed in my family from one generation to the other."
Tara opened the book and read, "A book of magic." She raised her head and looked curiously towards her mother.
Aradhana smiled and said, "Many many centuries ago it is said that my lineage possessed magic. But eventually we lost it and I don't know why. After the family lost magic this book was passed from one generation to next in the hope that if magic returns, the person possessing it might require this.
Tara processed this very fast and said, "You mean your forefathers performed witchcraft?"
"Yes, the lore says so but that was a long time ago. Since 100 years or more there hasn't been anyone in the family who possessed magic," said Aradhana making her bed.
Tara was enchanted by the new information about her family and said, "Mom would you mind if I keep this book with me?"
"Why would I mind? That book is more like a fairy tale having no existence in reality. And above all, in a few months it will be yours when you will get married to the man you brought today," said Aradhana smiling.
Tara blushed at the mention of her marriage to Mrityunjay and left the room with the book.
After her mother had gone to sleep, Tara was flipping the pages of the book to see what was in that book. The book was old, written in some ancient language which people no longer use now. But to her surprise, Tara was able to read it. She, like a curious kid, was trying to read every line and finish the book at once. She then stopped at a page where a magic spell to move things was written. Tara thought how her great forefathers would have done this and tried to mimic them. She said the spell and snapped her finger towards the glass kept in front of her. Nothing happened. She concentrated more this time and moved her fingers as instructed and this time too nothing happened. She laughed at her thought and continued to explore the book. She slept with the book open in her hand.

When Mrityunjay returned to his house, he informed Guruji about meeting Tara's mother, skipping the part about why he met her.
"Soon Mrityunjay will be with his family and I with mine," thought Guruji and left Mrityunjay with Maria.
Mrityunjay was rewinding all the events of that day and smiled thinking soon he would be with his family.

When Tara got up the next morning, she found herself still holding the book. She started reading it from where she had left it. The book had a chapter about witches. It said they can just perform magic like controlling earth, air and water, conjuring up fire or they can heal a person by just their touch. Suddenly the thought of the wounded bird crossed her mind.
"No, no, no this can't be true. This can't be happening. This is impossible." She was shouting and screaming at top of her lungs.
Hearing her shouting, Aradhana rushed to her from the kitchen.
"What happened? Why are you shouting? You had a bad dream?" Aradhana asked Tara rubbing her warm hand on her daughter's back to console her.
"Mom, mom..." Tara tried to say between her cries.
"Tell me my love, I am listening," said Aradhana hugging her daughter.
"I think I am a witch.
As soon as Tara said this, there was complete silence in the room. No sound was made for a moment.
Then Aradhana held Tara at arm's length and said, "I know you are. Otherwise how would you have got a man like Mrityunjay?" She winked.
"No mom, it's not like that." She said grabbing the book.
"Look here it says a witch can possess a power to heal. Yesterday I held a wounded bird and it healed instantly and flew off," said Tara in one breath.
Aradhana grabbed the book and said, "I believe I told you this book is more like a fairy tale. Why are you reading this? And about that bird, it might have healed already and your touch was just a warning for it to fly off. Don't think too much about it." Saying this she caressed her cheeks.
But Tara didn't seem to be convinced and tried to say something then stopped.
Seeing her daughter in dilemma Aradhana said, "I think you should talk about this with Mrityunjay's Guruji. He seems to be a wise man." And she kissed on Tara's forehead.
