Shoaib Mansoor's Verna Banned?
Filmmaker Shoaib Mansoor has gone into appeal with censor board today for urgent relief for his film Verna
IFRAH SALMAN UPDATED A DAY AGO
Seems like the Pakistan censor board is all set to show its rather ''stupid'' power di game as the CBFC Islamabad has banned Shoaib Mansoor's upcoming film Verna, deeming it unsuitable for viewership in the region.

Breaking News.. #Verna Banned By CBFC Islamabad!! Film to go to full board now.@TheMahiraKhan

What comes off an ironic is the fact that the the film, which is being deemed as an awareness creator amongst the audience has been banned by the authorities (who ought to be responsible themselves) claiming it unsuitable.

But this is certainly not the first time the authorities have taken such a step. Censor board Punjab recently banned Na Maloom Afraad 2 for a day without any authentic claims. The ban came after a month's running of the film in cinemas of the region and made a sane person question the sanity of the members of the censor board.

Also in reference was the ban on Ashir Azeem's Maalik, where the CBFC claimed that the audience would burn down cinema halls if the movie was allowed to release.

What we, as audience, fail to understand, is the complicated role of the censor board in Pakistan. Censor board is responsible for certifying a film for a certain audience, not completely banning it. But the practices that are followed around the world are completely ignored here in Pakistan!

Mahira Khan proves she's indestructive with her powerful teaser for Verna

As per the official statement by the filmmakers, "Shoaib Mansoor has gone into appeal with censor board today for urgent relief for his film. The film will be hopefully reviewed by full board today and we are hoping that the full board will prevail."

Verna talks about a rape victim and her survival. The story focuses on how the girl will defy odds to get justice or serve justice herself in that matter. There are a number of social issues that have been touched upon by Shoaib Mansoor in Verna including violence against women, the issue of abuse and harassment and of course the power di game of the corrupt leaders of the country.

The ban on Verna makes one ponder over the motives behind the censor board's actions. Is it being pressurized by those in power to withhold screenings? Perhaps the corrupt system does not like being questioned openly; perhaps they're fearing the unmasking of their true faces and consider shutting up the sources for good as the only option.

I read this in the news.

What's the reason for banning it?

Looks like 'ban' is the buzzword of the season in South Asia.

Why don't we also educate Pakistanis on why raping is bad and immoral act ,with the same passion that they always show day in n day out for our country?
Why ban the movie for talking on an issue which is not only a grave concern for Pakistani women but also for poor little chickens...😲

In a bizarre case, a 14-year-old boy has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a hen in Pakistan's Punjab province.

Mansab Ali, a resident of Jalapur Bhatian police station Hafizabad, some 200km from Lahore, told police that his neighbour Ansar Hussain "abducted" his hen on November 11 and "raped" it.

"The hen died while being sexually assaulted by Hussain. Two persons, Nasrullah and Tufail, witnessed this act," an FIR quoted the complainant as saying.

Station House Officer Sarfraz Anjum told The Express Tribune that the suspect had been arrested after a medical examination of the hen confirming the sexual assault.

"Hussain has also confessed to his crime. The boy said he did it out of sexual frustration," he said.

The reports of swabs collected from the hen were still awaited. The suspect has been booked, the police said.

Why not?

There is talk about banning Padmavati. We have already banned Satanic Verses and other books.

If you mean to say Pakistan is more intolerant and conservative than India, then yes, it is but that does not mean there can be no comparison. It was a simple comment on how there is talk of banning cinema in both countries.
They should not ban this movie. Rape is an issue that affects so many men and women.

And frankly, nobody lectures them about rape 'cause there isn't popular discourse about it.. The word which gets Pakistan lectured is 'terrorism'. For us, it's 'poverty and sexual assault'.

Why only Pakistan? Mahira's movie is even banned in India. Anyone wants to comment on that? Cuz god forbid Pakistan ever bans any Bollywood movie (i.e. Phantom) and there is an uproar in this forum. And this post is no different, blatant display fo superiority complex. Apnay khilaaf movies ban karay Pakistan tu issue lekin agar wahan ki movies TOTALLY banned hon tu chalta hai.

I guess the mods will let this go for 2 days of Pakistan bashing and then swipe in with ...yada yada yada.

P.S Stupid move by the censor board. But i don't care cuz its releasing here on Friday so i'll get to see it. 😃

Haan i know but i don't see Pakistanis bashing India, its always the NRIs or Indians themselves. As a Pakistani i take extreme care of the fact that i am on an INDIAN forum and thus i try my best to not say anything about India's internal matters because its not my place.

And i am not sure why Pakistani movies are banned in India, but i can tell you it was long before last year. I think also think that the Pakistani govt is huge Baigharaat for allowing Bollywood movies.

I think people should be free to criticise governments as long as it's not prejudiced. Internal matters- Hmm, I get your point, though I feel people can express what they feel without being discriminatory.

I think discussion around India&Pakistan has become so polarised that either side can't have an opinion on the other without being told they are prejudiced.

Do Pakistani directors even want to release in India? Considering it would take money to promote it and as I understand the industry is in its nascent stages, so big budgets for promotion etc would not be possible. I haven't seen Pakistani filmmakers talk about wanting to release films in India, yet.

Bollywood movies in Pak- Well, I have read that not releasing BW movies actually hurts Pakistani distributors who release the movies. Also, is there an alternate source of entertainment?
