Gauri had just spied her beat-up red suitcase on the bed and made a mental note about thanking her husband for being such a thoughtful person. To think of Omkara Singh Oberoi as her husband was nothing new to Gauri... she'd considered him her pati since day one of their wedding in Bareilly. But to think of him as her husband... hers, was something entirely new, something that sent shivers of something suspiciously like excitement skittering down her spine.
She was just about to contemplate the way it had felt to hug him earlier that day, when she heard the door to their room open
"Gauri..."
She would never tire of hearing her name being called in that swoon-worthy voice of his. Especially now that he wasn't growling it out in frustration or anger, he made her name sound so precious and soft that Gauri literally melted a little every time he called her.
These thoughts running across her mind at light speed didn't stop her from turning to meet his eyes and promptly getting lost in them.
The softness in his demeanor when he was around her, the respect he gave her and her choices, the innate care for her and the unashamed adoration radiating from his eyes were all as new to Gauri as they were precious. This complex but adorable man was hers... for life, and the possibilities for their newly reconfigured relationship were endless.
Even as she contemplated all this, she could see him come to stand in front of her, a bowl of what looked like some dessert in his hands and his eyes filled with uncertainty. As much as she wanted to do everything she could to remove that doubt from his psyche, Gauri knew that this had to be handled by her Nandi Singh Oberoi himself.
"Zindagi ne humein ek doosre ke saath ek aur mauka diya hai to maine socha kyun na hum is naye sire ki shuruaat kuch meethe se karein... is liye maine tumhare liye jelly custard banaaya. Would you like to taste it?"
The tentativeness in his voice and the awkwardness that existed between them made Gauri just want to hug him once more, make sure that he never had reason to worry about the permanence of their relationship again. But she settled for glancing at the bowl he held in his hands
"Aap na humare liye banaaya?"
At his earnest, child-like nod, she stifled a grin and continued
"To aap hi humein khilaaiye...please?"
The grin that broke over his face was all the reward she needed and Gauri's answering smile was bright as the sun. Omkara wasted not a moment before digging into the bowl for a healthy spoonful of custard and held the spoon to her lips. Their eyes stayed locked with each other as she opened her mouth to taste the sweet concoction her jatadhari had made for her. But as the sweet flavor burst on her tongue, Gauri's eyes slid closed involuntarily and she sighed at the heavenly taste
"Mmm... it's so good!"
"Accha?!"
The surprise in his voice made her look at him once more
"Aap ne banaaya hai na? Chak ke nahin dekha?"
Omkara shook his head no' and Gauri plucked the spoon from his hand and dug into the bowl herself before extending a spoonful of the custard toward him, her eyes twinkling merrily as she almost hopped from foot to foot in excitement. Omkara's lips automatically stretched in an answering smile as he too opened his mouth to accept the proffered morsel.
"Hmmm... its actually not bad!"
Gauri grinned at him and shook her head
"Ye aap kya keh rahe hain?... Not bad se bohot zyaada accha hai Omkaraji..."
Omkara nodded back and took the spoon from her, making her think that she was going to get fed another morsel of the yummy custard by his hand. Accordingly, Omkara brought the spoonful of delicious creamy custard toward her mouth and just when she was about to close her lips around the spoon, yanked it back and plopped it in his own mouth with a naughty grin, leaving Gauri to gape at him unblinkingly. Her expression quickly turned into a dissatisfied pout and she folded her arms across her chest petulantly, turning away from him in fake anger.
Seeing her looking like a tiny angry minion, Omkara couldn't help but laugh and extend another spoonful in her direction. Gauri's eyes caught the spoon of custard in her peripheral vision and this time, to make sure that he wouldn't pull the same trick on her, she grabbed hold of his wrist and pulled his whole arm towards her, the spoon at the end of it making its way into her mouth.
Savoring the bite of custard, she turned a challenging glance to him and said
"Wo custard humara hai... dijiye humein"
Omkara glanced down at the half full bowl and looked back up at his wife... his Gauri who stood there, her eyebrow raised inquiringly, her foot tapping impatiently as she waited for him to hand the dessert over. That moment, he could see... he could see their lives extending in front of them filled with a million small happinesses, never a dull moment, always, always filled to the seams with love... endless oceans of love that he felt for her and that this exceptional woman had for him.
His eyes sparkling with the after effects of his vision, Omkara quietly extended the bowl to her. Gauri, who had expected some sort of protest from him, looked at the bowl and then him suspiciously, before reaching out and plucking it out of his hand. She hadn't yet had the time to take another spoonful when she felt herself being yanked into her jatadhari's warm embrace. His arms wrapped around her waist from behind, his chest warm and incredibly solid against her back, his heart beating in rhythm with hers and his warm breath fanning her cheek as he leaned in to whisper into her ear
"Ye bhi tumhara... aur ise banaane waala bhi"
The bowl of custard she'd almost argued with him over was forgotten instantly in her nearly nerveless fingers, when she felt his lips skim her ear and press a soft kiss against her neck. His hands tightened around her waist for a brief moment, pulling her closer to him before he released her and stepped back.
Gauri turned to catch his eyes and immediately found herself flushing red at the expression in them. Had someone told her even a week back, that Omkara Singh Oberoi would be looking at her like that... she'd have died laughing at them. But this moment... it was real as could be.
Watching Gauri's cheeks flush with the most beautiful shade of red he'd ever seen had Omkara feel an irresistible urge to touch those cheeks and feel the warm, satin skin under his fingertips. Quickly taking the bowl of dessert from her hands, he placed it on one end of the recliner and gently moved her so that she was sitting at the other end of it. Kneeling in front of her brought him to the same height as her and Omkara had his fill of observing her beautiful visage... her bright kohl-lined eyes shying away from his, the soft, satiny skin of her cheeks dyed red, her tempting rosebud lips caught in her teeth as she tried to hide her nervousness.
Gauri's heart was thundering in her ears as she found herself sitting on the green recliner while Omkara knelt in front of her. Her eyes kept going back to his but she found herself unable to hold his intense gaze... her fingers twisted her dupatta at her lap and Gauri had to bite her lip to keep herself from either running away from this overwhelming feeling that was filling her or flinging herself at him in abandon. She started when she felt a soft, warm touch at her bottom lip, his fingers gently pulling at the lip she'd been worrying with her teeth. His thumb ran over her bottom lip once more, as if soothing the hurt from her teeth, only succeeding in leaving trails of fire wherever he touched. Her breath hitched on a gasp and Omkara's eyes snapped up to hers.
Omkara found himself more fascinated by that little piece of her skin that he could remember being in his entire lifetime. Though he'd known on some level that Gauri was a beautiful woman, only after he's faced his feelings for her and dealt with them properly had he let himself notice just how unearthly beautiful his little chiraiyya was. Now as he stared at her lips, he couldn't help but want to soothe the hurt she was causing herself by biting her lip. Without any conscious thought, Omkara's thumb gently went over her bottom lip, soothing the hurt her teeth might've caused, while simultaneously wondering just what it would feel like to worry her lips with his teeth like she'd been doing just a moment ago.
Without noticing, he was moving toward Gauri and she was responding to his unconscious advances by falling back against the recliner, making him lean over her as both of them tried to make sense of the million sensations sparking inside them.
At hearing her gasp, Omkara glanced up from her lips to her eyes, to make sure she wasn't uncomfortable with whatever was going on and found his world rocked to see her eyes dark and dilated, staring back at him with infinite amounts of love. Nervousness, want, excitement and apprehension fought for second place... but love, warm and comforting, overshined everything else.
"Gauri... may I... is it okay if... I wan-..."
Before he could get frustrated with himself and his inability to be clear during this moment of overwhelming emotional importance, Gauri had caught his chin in her tiny hand and was comfortingly stroking his stubbled cheek. At meeting her eyes once more, she only nodded almost imperceptibly, slightly pulling his face toward her own before letting her luminous eyes fall closed, giving him silent permission
Without a second thought, Omkara leaned down and softly pressed his lips to hers. That first chaste kiss... just a barely there brush of his lips to hers, conveyed enough for both of them to lean back and stare at each other, their eyes speaking volumes while their lips remained mum.
Barely five seconds passed however, when they were both leaning toward each other once more, their lips intent on doing their part in advancing the silent communication between the two soulmates. The difference between this kiss and the first one, was that of heaven and earth. If that first one had been heaven... purely made up of higher emotions, intent on conveying love and affection; this one was pure need... plain and simple.
Omkara's warm fingers splayed across her cheeks, holding Gauri in place while he cherished the contact of her lips. He knew that she was as innocent as they came but she had always responded to him without any inhibitions. Even now, as he kissed her again and again, seemingly unable to stop himself from tasting her tempting lips, he felt Gauri burrow closer to him, her arms slipping around his neck as she whimpered each time his lips left hers bereft, making him reach for her once more.
With one little touch of her lips, Omkara had become an addict once again. And he knew... this was one addiction he hoped he would never get over. A habit he would never be able to kick. Gauri Omkara Singh Oberoi was to pervade every little aspect of his life... she was his wife, his love, his best friend and the other half of his soul.
The two were so involved in each other, entirely unaware of and unconcerned with anything that wasn't the other, that they never heard Rudra knocking on the door repeatedly or yelling at his brother to open up.
Though certain three words weren't mentioned that night, they certainly were felt deeply by both of them, Gauri and Omkara spending the night talking about themselves, each other, their pasts, their lives before the advent of the other and how they'd both changed irrevocably from the moment they'd come into each other's lives. Though some parts of the conversation were hard on both of them, the soothing presence of the other, along with the knowledge that they were loved, made it easier for them to handle themselves and each other.
They talked through the night, soothing the hurts of the past, clarifying the misunderstandings of the present and laying the foundations for their future, with a generous amount of make out sessions sprinkled along the way.
As a new morning dawned, the first few rays of the bright sun found a chiraiyya sleeping contently in the secure embrace of her jatadhari, the serene smiles on both their faces testament to the future that shone brightly ahead of them. It was a new day and with the darkness of the night in the past, nothing but happiness and sunshine lay ahead.
