You might be right about why Maasa chose to expose masisa in front of Kanak, but not to Uma. Still I'm not sure Maasa could talk so far, it seems her health improved very much lately. Although in a desperate situation, being afraid that her last hope, Kanak, could abandon the fight, her effort to talk was tough. This could be cvs explanation for Maasa late confession in front of Kanak.
In my opinion, helping and fighting for your husband ( even if it means to be against him for a while) is a matter of self respect. In war soldiers are starving,humiliated, torn in the mud, but when they achieve victory they are called heroes and respected by anyone.
But some of them would choose to emigrate and avoid the war, if they had this option.
