Two hits of slb with same couple gave the third one PV alot of hype, and rightly so.
But are we floating with it?

I mean I am seeing alot of appreciation for Ghoomar.
Nothing against the song, couple , director or the movie itself.

But do you REALLY think this song is as great as it is made out to be on social media and here on IF ?

For me :

The song is strictly average
Composition is DULL
Singing is pretty average too

Execution is lacklustre
Lacks appeal
Looks nothing new
DP is graceful but nothing extraordinary to shout about.

Do you think GHOOMAR is been overhyped unnecessarily mainly due to slb-dp/rs previous solid hit track record ?

Or is it really THAT GOOD of a composition & execution?

I honestly believe Padmavati like every other SLB film is overhyped. The last historical romance film I liked was Jodha Akbar and to my knowledge that was ages ago. Ram Leela was nice to an extent but not a cinematic wonder it is claimed to be -- the sets were obvious, story so and so and the ending hilarious. It took out whatever emotion there was in the film. I remember the climax getting to people until the last moment where it just ends up being a stupid ending slash laugh riot.

Ghoomar goes solely to Deepika Padukone, the heavy costumes, flame, dancing and the whole sync of the song with the 60 something apparent twirls she had to do with those fire urns. That is applause worthy. But then, I don't think I'm going to watch Padmavati. The film just doesn't sell to me. And all the obvious over promotion and the blatant PR that follows just makes it worse. But for all we know it might end up being a hit. Everyone loved Bajirao Mastaani and I skipped it (until I watched certain parts on tv and didn't like what was shown).

Deepika needs to pick better films, what is this? Her third of fourth SLB film? I miss her acting in films like Bachna Ae Haseeno, Om Shanti Om, Love Aaj Kal, Break Ke Baad and Ye Jawaani Hai Deewani. She was amazing in Piku too! All the best to her, though. Or even the Houseful film she did! It was fun.

Also, one thing I dislike about most SLB films is that the sets are so overdone that it's obvious that they're sets. It's ruins the whole film for me. Maybe it's a pet peeve, idk.

I dont think so. I am a fan but then I think the praise is because it is really spectacular. It is larger than life beautiful and it showcases a distinct culture in all its glory.
SLB+ DP+ Shreya have given nagada sang dhol and Deewani Mastani which was out of this world when the same team repeats there is a chance of comparison. There is also comparison to SLB's previous dance numbers from Devdas.

Even with all that Ghoomar is getting a lot of praise and DP especially for the dance.
The song starts of slow and then picks up rhythm, You may not connect to it but it certainly grows on you..

I feel this is Deepika's best yet, the hard work she has put in completely shows, she aced the intricate steps, had the right expressions and also grace which is essential for a song like this.I personally loved the composition. SLB has captured the soul of the festivities the song the chorus and there is lot going on in the background the trumpets and the drums.I feel the appreciation is well deserved and it is because it is visually stunning.

It is a film that requires the big screen experience for the audience to capture the essence.. Ghoomar will look even more spectacular on the big screen.😊

Jodha Akbar is by Ashutosh Gowariker

This is Deepika's third film with SLB . I feel she is lucky to be doing 3 back to back films with SLB. What he has given her through Deewani Mastani is special..It is one of the most visually stunning dance sequences ever ..

3 titular characters some of the best roles that will be remembered for a long time.

Even in polls Leela and Mastani are loved by people more than her characters in Piku, YJHD, Tamasha etc.

Ik, it totally slipped my mind. I corrected myself above.

Yes, Deepika is lucky to have worked with SLB three times and I do agree that Deewani Mastaani has to be one of the spectacular dance performances that will be remembered in time. But then, there are so many things that I don't agree with when it comes to the core plot of the film. I along with a many of my friends who are hardcore Deepika Padukone fans chose to skip it. But let's not get into that. 😃

When it comes to the roles Deepika is most loved for. As per my knowledge they're Shanti Priya from Om Shanti Om, Chennai Express, Happy New Year and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. I can't say much about her characters in Piku and Tamasha but her character in YJHD is loved hugely by the masses. During the release of YJHD you had to struggle to get tickets because people actually watched the film multiple times. Her SLB roles are good titular, the film is grand and she's clearly his muse, I'm not denying that. But I would love to see her in films like Piku or YJHD more. I'm not saying they're bad films, they are amazing films but just not the films I would like to watch. And about Nagada Sang Dhol, it's the only reason I went to watch Ram Leela despite knowing it's a tragedy film, I really wanted to see the sequence on the big screen. And I'm not saying Padmavati is bad, it's grand and nice and actually looks like a painting come to life but I don't see myself paying to go watch it in the theatres, that's all.

I have full HD projector (epson) with 4k compatibility and I watched GHOOMAR on my 240 inch projector screen...almost as close an experience as in theatre...but still didnt found it that special.
Yes when I watched it on my pc and then on big projector screen, the difference was there but it didnt changed my stance for the song.

And as someone said, slb works way TOO MUCH on sets that despite been looking grand they still looklike film sets.

Yes it is that good

The folksy beginning and the male voice is amazing

And as much as I dislike shreyas nasal sweet high pitch voice these days, it provides a nice contrast

And Deepika was mind blowing

Yesterday I was watching ghoomar on loop and deepika is mesmerizing in my tv screen

Her presence
Her curvy soft moves

The choreography is a bit lackluster and the sets and lighting are obviously bad but man deepika glows

The song rocks

Now waiting for the trademark SLB Yaman Raag song and one pure classical track
