Hi everyone! As you would have guessed, my name is Naina and I am new to this wonderful place! I actually never even knew they had a forum for this series until yesterday when I was scrolling through all the lists! I absolutely love the love and friendship of the protagonists in the serial, even though I have only recently started watching it. This is an AU [Alternate Universe] fanfic so I hope you like it and well, without further ado, let's get on with the story!
--HAPPY READING--
CHAPTER 1: THE ONE WITH THE ENCOUNTER
IT WAS DARK OUTSIDE, as Avni sat waiting for her boyfriend to come home. She was getting anxious. Where is he? Why isn't he home yet? She was getting worried for Laksh. He is never late.
That is when the knocking started.
She knew she had to act fast. She had to call the police, or Laksh, or even her family who lived two houses away. But she was frozen. Who would come here at 2 A.M. at night? Laksh had the keys, so he wouldn't knock. Avni looked around as she found a saucepan and an egg. Great idea, Avni. If the potential burglar or kidnapper walks in, just make him an omelette.
The knocking persisted. She slowly started walking towards the door, the saucepan and egg in hand. She was getting anxious by each passing minute as she looked around for any signs of trouble. With her hand on the door knob, she cursed them for not having a hole in the door to look through, and then opened the door about a feet.
"Can I help you?" She said meekly.
"Are you Avni?" A man about her age turned around and her breath caught in her throat. Oh my goodness, this man was like a Greek God. She gulped down the bile rising in her throat and help up the saucepan... and the egg. You can never be too careful, was what her mother always said. Besides, the kidnappers these days are insanely attractive, after all that is how they trap girls.
But not me, she decided.
"The one and the only." Avni laughed nervously. Seriously, though, this was definitely not the time for her humor.
"Extremely sorry for disturbing you at this hour, miss." The gravelly voice replied as big brown eyes settled on hers. "But I am afraid this is a pressing matter."
"Is everything all right? Who are you?"
"Yes, of course, my apologies. Where are my manners?" The man pulls out a card from his back pocket. Or no, it's not a card, it's a police badge. "My name is Neil Khurrana. I am with the police and I have come to ask you some questions."
"Did I do something wrong?"
"No, miss, it's not concerning you."
"Oh my god." The horror hits Avni like a ton of bricks. "Is this about my family?! Are they okay?!"
"This is about your boyfriend."
"My..my boyfriend?" She stutters. Laksh was a hardworking orthodontist, what could he have done to attract the attention of the police?
"You know Lakshya Singh Mehrotra?"
"Yes. You are right, he is my boyfriend." Avni stutters again. "I am confused, officer, did he do something wrong?"
"Miss, your boyfriend is under arrest." Neil leans down on the scared little woman. "For substance abuse."
##
I can't believe I was woken in the middle of the night to go to the house of some scared little women who made horrified eyes every time she opened her mouth. I was sleeping so quietly, after a day full of gunshots and arrests, finally at peace, and then this happens.
But damn, if she wasn't the most beautiful.
The way her hair covered her face when she looked down embarrassed. The way her mouth formed the words coming out. The way her nose scrunched up in the most adorable and cutest way when she was confused.
She was breathtaking.
"Follow me." I stepped back and allowed Avni to come out of her house and lock the door. Her boyfriend didn't deserve her. I bet she doesn't have a betraying bone in her body, even after knowing her for less than 10 minutes.
"I'll follow in my own car."
"That is not how it works." Or, correction, that is not how it would work for me.
Ever since I joined duty, I played around, sure, but I promised myself never to get into anything serious. I was barely 26 and I wasn't going to get married until I was at the very least 35. Marriage wasn't a joke, it was a decision that dictated how the rest of your life is going to go, and I wasn't going to make a joke out of it either.
"It isn't?" Again, with the scrunching of the nose. Oh god, this woman will be the end of me. It is not healthy for me to be attracted to a potential partner in crime of the suspect.
"Get in the car, Miss." She complies.
This is going to be a long night.
