Never in her dreams she thought she would get married in a village where even going to a parlour was a taboo... yes she did accept Maan and her in-laws were good people but at times she didn't know what to talk to them.. and even him.. it was like what ever she tries will end up in an argument.. these days there were more arguments than casual conversations...
She really couldn't wonder if she was really a good choice for him... now that she was staying back at home she thought it would be better to visit Ritu... Ritu was her friend who runs a beauty parlour at her home... due to her poor financial background she couldn't continue her education after tenth but was now happy and Independent..
Ritu was already at the door talking to someone when Geet reached her house.. and meeting her after such a long time they both were exited at first but slowly after the greetings they settled into an awkward silence... and then into some random talks... by the time Geet was done with grooming herself she came to know that Ritu was getting married to a guy from her village and they could meet more often now...
Walking back to her home she kinda remembered her conversation with Sush... it was her birthday and she didn't forget it though she didn't show it but she was quite exited as this was her first birthday after her marriage... though she was disappointed that Maan asked her to stay back she shrugged off thinking they would spend an entire day out!
This was the first time Maan took out time for her it just made her feel so much special that she couldn't stop her blush or the glow of her face... she didn't even notice that her father was parking his scooter as she walked past him into the house...
Geet??
Papa? When did you come i didn't see you.. and you didn't pick my calls today... i did call you in the afternoon... and why are you looking so weak is everything alright?
Laughing at his daughters complaints... he drank water that his wife brought and settled on the sofa... while geet was pouting with a frown just sat in the empty chair...
I was busy in the afternoon and didn't pick your call and i did know you were going to stay here tonight so i came a little early... oh and what was the last one.. yes I'm feeling a little feverish today so maybe that's why I'm looking weak... Geet I think I did answer all your questions right?
Fever!! And that's it she forgot everything and was back to being Papa's over sensitive daughter... asking his to rest bringing him food forcing his medicine down his throat and finally asking maa to rest while she would do the rest of the chores...
Now that she was alone and it was almost 10 by the time she finished her work and was back to her room her thoughts again wandered back to Maan... there was a strange kind of restless filled in her... now that he told he would call her in the night she thought she could wait and for passing time she took her time picking up a dress for the next day... then cursed herself to have left the jewelry and saree on the bed in the morning... thought to ask if Maan has placed them in...
Then to pass more time she thought to change her nail colour.. and then thought to call Sush and then thought otherwise coz then she would have to answer embarrassing questions of her friend..
Slowly the clock stated to tickle and her spirits started loosening... she cursed herself for building up her hope and have expected something from him.. it was her fault to expect... ofcourse for Maan birthdays and stuff would be crazy city culture which he would find absurd and foolish! It was really her stupidity to wait...
But didn't he say he would call at night!
She didn't bother wiping her tears which were now wetting the pillow as slept on her stomach while one hand still held her phone...
It was around 12.30 when her phone rang and she was almost settling into a disturbed sleep... looking at the time she picked up the call
Hello? Geet? Hello?? His voice was confused from the other side..
She wanted to shout and yell and pickup another fight but then it wasn't her nature to react so violently so she settled a simple "hmmm"
He almost thought it was some kind of network problem as he stepped into the balcony...
Wo i went back to the fields in the afternoon... and then to the godown to check there were some minor issues so it took time..

I didn't know what to do at home... even you weren't here... baba went to his office today and maa and dadi were busy... so i thought atleast i could get some work done..

No why should I and what were you saying i couldn't wait?... all i did till now was wait only Maan... i couldn't sleep thinking you will call me any moment now and my bad i couldn't even call you right... if i do you will get angry and burst like a volcano...

No you shouldn't have... she said hugging the pillow close to herself while wrapping the blanket more tightly...
