Back to being The Oberois.
On regaining composure Shivay studied the proposal Saumya had emailed. Her efficiency surprised him as there were two lines of action proposed. One, to increase the number of developers slog out to launch the project on time. It was difficult but achievable. The second option was to finish the design work for the proposed enhancements and project it as roadmap ahead for the product. The only change that she wanted incorporating now was changing identity security from third party to their own. If they started coding now it would be ready by month end to test. This would be of excessive value to clients, and end users.. Having their own would be a much reliable option.
All three were impressed by the proposal she gave within 12 hours.
"Rudra call Akash for a board meeting at 5:30 PM today. Tell Saumya she will be replacing Akash formally Shivay said picking Om's Phone to call someone. Om was scared for his lovely phone, it was Priyanka's gift from her first stipend.
"Bhavya do we have any intelligence on Akash?
Bhavya, Joint Director Enforcement was covertly helping him find details about Akash. She told Shivay that on discreetly taping into all his bank accounts in India no irregularities were found. No proof of his connection to Sheshadri was found yet. The two emails discovered by Neil in Akash's official account were merely conversational. Shivay had known Bhavya since the time she had assisted him in resolving his dadaji's old factory case. She had been working on an old government underprivileged housing scheme scam. It was this scheme that behind the brutal murder of her family as it involved some huge names of the political and administrative circle. Shivay had got her deputed to Enforcement Directorate from Anti-Terror Cell. She told him that to tap into Akash's personal laptops and phone she would need at least one more day.
"I don't have much time Bhavya,
"Shivay I am still on it, I will get back to you soon. Bhavya tried to convince Shivay. Bhavya and Shivay rarely met but yet they were speed dial friends or emergency friends. To be more accurate they only contacted each other in times of need. This helped them to keep their association secret.
"Bhaiya do you know who is Bhavya?
"Yes, Rudy why do you ask?
"She is Saumya's older sister?
Rudy replied leaving Shivay a little shocked but how could he have known. He did not go looking into employees' family details.
"Guys there is an issue at the plant. I will leave the factory. Om said getting up.
" O' Meeting at five, keep in mind Om noded to Rudra and left.
Shivay told Rudy to fix a video call with Saumya around two PM. They needed to chalk out the entire path ahead in detail and try to stick to that.
Rudra came back to his office to call Saumya, while often any message to the employees was conveyed using emails but how could Rudra give up an opportunity to talk to his favorite punching bag, or so Saumya thought. What Rudra thought never came to the fore. Maybe now it would, maybe now is the right time.
"Appi this is Rudy
"Rudra please, refrain from calling me names.
"I thought we were friends. Rudra found himself on backfoot.
"I had submitted my suggestions regarding Akash's recommendations, any decision on that yet?. She ducked his statement altogether and Rudra took his cue to step back.
"Ok hold on for me for few minutes please.
"She was put on hold and the song that played irked her to no ends. She sat listening to "Chal chal mere haathi, haathi mere saathi. Chal yaar dhakka maar band hai motor car.
Once they had all gone for a long drive when in college and by chance, their car's battery gave up. Every time they switched the engine off they had to push the car to start it. Rudra always made Saumya push from his side, he hummed this song. Next day he started calling her Appi, female version of Appu the Hathi. After what seemed like ages the song stopped and she heard a "hallo

"Oh no! She recognized Rudra's voice and this was not him, then Shivay, no his tone was not so gruff. Maybe Om, not at all, he had that smokiness in his tone that could cause severe breathing disability in some females, she thought.
"I am waiting for your response.
She was certain this was Tej Singh Oberoi. She had heard him discussing GST reforms on TV. Wow she went ahead and made a ninny of herself right in front of Rudra's father. Could it get any worse?
"Sir I am Saumya. I...I mean...I think I got a ...the wrong number.
"Wrong number? ...but you were talking about Rudra?
"Oh no! No sir it is not Rudra...
"But you were just threatening him with dire consequences, he must have done something to warrant that.
"No sir ...I..It is n..not th...at sir. I mean...I did not mean Rudra ...
"you meant someone else Saumya.
"I think I must quit sir! Saumya said giving up.
"Quit! What did Rudra do that you think you must quit?
"Sir please it is not Rudra, I mean sir, you...
"Me!! What have I done? I don't recall meeting you.
"OH! My God! Sir, please it's not about you. I think I must hang... Tej was not letting her complete her sentences.
"Hang!!! You must be excessively distressed. Look I would suggest you take a break from whatever you are doing and come to our head office. We anyways need to discuss the project. There is no point in taking minor tiffs to such extreme. Hanging and shooting, life is precious my dear.
Tej disconnected the call without listening to her objections and interjections. He was enjoying this way too much. A girl who could dare threaten an Oberoi, that too Rudra, he needed to see this one in person. He called the switchboard and asked them to divert all the incoming calls to Rudra's extension to his. Shivay had inherited Tej's way of foolproof planning.
Saumya was nervous and unable to believe the way things went spiraling down within in minutes. This Rudra was such an idiot. He was to come back and he instead diverted the call to his dad. These Oberois were craziness personified. They were so impulsive, and spontaneous.
"Yesterday In just an hour badey bhaiya decided to crown me with this mess of a project and I should be highly thankful for this lifetime opportunity. What a lovely job they have given me, to trace the trajectory ahead for this free-falling rocket. Next is Bade Baal wale bhaiya who appears to be in his own world doing commercials for Baba Shyam Dev's Amla and Shikakai. She saw her phone buzz. It was Rudra
"Yes Sir how can I help you now? Her tone was laced with an extra coating of caramel. Who knows who will this baby Oberoi go tattling to? She very conveniently chose to forget that it was she who had blurted out her threat to Tej Singh Oberoi assuming him to be Rudra.
Someone needs to tell Saumya that anger eventually feeds on its own host. She was lucky that she had not said that to Tej Singh Oberoi of a decade and a half ago. Had that been the case Tej would have made her life miserable. In these past many years he had learned that excess sugar always caused deformities. Lies, deceit, and treachery thrived on such sugary deformities whereas Truth was tasteless but around it, thrived eternal prosperity.
"Did dad speak to you?
"Yes sir, after all his baby wanted him to talk to me.
"I am ignoring your jibes, what did he say?
"To come over She added in a clipped tone
"Now?
"No, in the next century.
"Okay enough Saumya, don't make me recommend you for our personality grooming and office etiquette lessons. It would do you good to remember that you are talking to Rudra Singh Oberoi, Joint Director Oberoi Group of Industries. There he stepped on her already dwindling confidence yet again. He did not do it on purpose. Something was wrong with Oberois, the girls that they did not care for, stuck to them like velcros and those who had been able to hold their attention never responded in kind. How sad is that?

Real realizations and faulty conclusions.
Rudra how are you acquainted with Saumya? Tej asked directly when they were walking together to the conference room, the way Rudra's steps faltered, told Tej he needed to be careful.
"We were in college together.
"Yeah, Shivay told me you recommended her name as the lead for Tia's project. Are you sure about her integrity?
"Absolutely Papa, one can suspect my loyalty and integrity but hers is beyond any questions. Rudra's tone shocked Tej. He knew very well that this Oberoi was a very strong balance of heart and mind. This kind of conviction could not come from a mere attraction. He also knew that while Rudra had framed himself in this happy go lucky frame but he was the weakest link of Oberois. He was sensitive and the most exposed to the world professionally as well as personally. He connected with people and understood their pulse very easily. It was this inherent quality because of which he had taken the responsibility of managing marketing and human resources. Tej also understood that Rudra needed to be protected because he was vulnerable, he was his darling baby and in that moment Tej decided that anyone who enters's Rudra's life would have to go through Tej's scrutiny.
Shivay, Shakti, Janhavi, were joined by Tej and Rudra in the conference room
"Bade papa you called Saumya in?
"We need to take Saumya in confidence and let her know the entire thing. I have had her background checked and she looks good. So far professional ability goes, we need to proactively work on this project till it is launched or it will be derailed. The investors have invested in this project because we are associated with Ktech Solutions. Derailment of this project will cause us our reputation and may affect our stocks too. Since you and Om you are already dealing with Dyuti, Janhavi and I will see to the successful launch of this project. Shakti I need you to scan for all the legal breaches and loopholes that have been overlooked here Shivay was stumped he had been pushed out of his fianc's project. This is not merely about successful implementation of the project, neither could it be about sabotage. The stocks would dip a little if this project went haywire, but it would be very short lived. Tej stepping up to take control was not normal. Shivay looked at Janhavi to get some cue but she was busy with the computer screen. Shivay's chain of thoughts was broken, by a knock at the door.
Rudra opened the conference hall for saumya. She was so unnerved by what had happened over the phone that the minute she saw Tej, Shakti, And Janhavi in their very majestic avatars, she forgot to inhale and her hands folded in a namaste automatically instead of a good afternoon. This made the senior Oberois smile.
"Bhai sahib I am feeling old today.
"So am I. Tej replied to Shakti. Saumya felt like smashing her head with a hammer.
"I am sorry Sir she mumbled...
"Sorry about what Saumya? Janhavi asked.
"I am extremely nervous mam.
"Take a deep breath, we are as human as you, full of faults. This office is in India, an adab or a Namaste is an absolutely accepted form of greeting.
Saumya felt slightly better, but facing so many high profile people simultaneously was making her visibly nervous. She somehow managed to explain the proposal. Once they all settled on to embed identity security software within the program right now, and showcasing the enhancements as roadmap ahead, she sighed with relief. This out of the way she could now concentrate on work, away from Oberois. They unnerved her.
"This is the Saumya you had recommended? She cant even look straight into anyone's eyes?
"Papa her job requirement is not looking into people's eyes, it requires her looking at that nonliving, non-responding computer and code the design requirements. She is perfect at it Rudra lost his cool finally. Saumya had already messed with his mind and now Tej was pocking him. He scrutinized Tej trying to ascertain if he was upset. Rudra had for the first ever been rude to his father.
Rudra tracked Saumya since they had separated after Graduation. When in grad school Saumya had been smitten by Ryan. He had done every thing in his capacity to break the charm of the great Ryan Bhadani but it never worked. She was foolish to never see that Ryan was interested elsewhere. Ryan and Romi were now engaged. It was a marriage of convenience. Saumya had suffered the worst tragedy one ever could. She had shut herself up, to the world. Since past four years she had been working at Ktech and Rudra had been silently following her. Only if we were able to distinguish between friends and foes, life would be so easy and simple. Rudra luckily was shielded from the happenings around him because he had two elder brothers always protecting him. He also was closer to all the senior Oberois which gave him a sense of security, unfortunately Shivay and Om lacked that kind of interaction with Oberoi seniors. This had made Rudra more stable, more realistic in his relationships with people. Unlike Shivay, who interpreted situations in accordance to it's practical viability alone including relations. He excluded only his family from this rule. Om saw everything from a black or white lens, for him either it was right or wrong. He was absolute in his judgement that circumstances never meant anything for him. Rudra was different he analyzed situations based on their real impact rather than practical or ideal impact. He was non-judgmental and gave people a scope to not only err but also a chance to correct their errors. This made him the body of this family which encased the heart (om), mind (Shivay) and the conscience (Priyanka) trying to protect them from all outside affects.

Chapter 38
Bade Bhaiya ki to nikal pari.
Rudra went on with his work but around late afternoon he came to his dad with coffee. Rudra had always been concerned for his father like for everyone else in the family regardless of his actions.
"Papa what happened today, haven't seen bro like that since ages. Tej raptured into unbridled laughter on hearing his son's remark.
"Did you eat lunch with Bhaiya? Tej nodded in affirmative to that question, his waves of laughter had still not subsided.
"You are sure it was not laced with some drug? Both of you are behaving strangely.
Tej passed his phone to Rudra. It had an image which read Anika Shivay Singh Oberoi in Shivay's writing. Rudra tried to make sense of what he saw.
"Bhaiya's writing! Bhaiya wrote it? Tej again nodded in affirmative still laughing.
"I took that picture during the conference before Shivay noticed his mistake. Shivay himself wrote his name on the placecard and I have no idea what made him write this. The best part of this drama was that Mr Vardhan noticed it too and congratulated both of them on their impending wedding. He called Shivay smitten by Anika. The look on their faces was priceless. That girl Anika is such a darling she took the blame on herself saying it was an innocent mistake.
"Kahin aur to nahi chap jayega papa, media, press?
(I hope media wont get a whiff of it.)
"No only VArdhan, Shivay Anika and I know about it.
Rudra messaged the pic to himself and then to O with the title Bhaiya ki to nikal pari.
"Papa Lady baba ka kya hoga Bhaiya to gaye.
(Papa what will become of Lady baba? Bro is out of her zone now.)
Rudra's eyes sparkled with mirth and face beamed with anticipation. Tia's name brought about certain grayness to Tej's countenance. His smile was replaced with a contemplative frown. Rudra understood Tej very well.
"Papa something is wrong?
"I am not sure myself yet but you will be the first one to know. I think Shivay is also picking up on the same clues that I am?
"It is about Tia's loyalty to us, right Papa?
Tej chose to remain quiet, he had not arrived at any conclusion. Saying anything without proper proof could ruin his relations with Shivay. He had seen his family stand against him for far too long, he had just started to get them back and he would do nothing to ruin this happiness. He knew it was precious.
"Rudra send the car to pick Anika up and book a flight for her tomorrow evening to Delhi.She would be staying with us tonite.
She agreed to it!
"She was ready to bite any body's head but I ...
"You being you, how can some one evade your charming self daddy? Rudra cut in, which he never dared to because he was always scared of his dad. Today though was different, he was happy for he could feel the air around Oberois changing.
"Rudy do as I say, and go now, our coffee is done.
"What if she has some exam or some thing important Rudra was a little concerned of changing her schedule without her express permission.
"She is going by train Rudra and would reach Delhi not before tomorrow night.
"Aye Aye sir. Rudy was all in with his dad on this mission Badey bhaiya ki to nikal pari.
"Papa I am sorry for what happened in the conference today. I really am. Rudra's face had fallen.
Tej smiled and waived him off. Rudra could die million deaths to see his dad smile and he knew he was forgiven.
