Usman @mindblabber
"Dont highlight the negatives of your country in front of the whole world" is "log kia kahengey" on a global scale.

So, do you agree or disagree with this tweet?

Edit- I am bringing up this topic because everytime a BW celeb spoke something even slightly negative about India, we saw the rest of BW ganging up against them and chiding them for highlighting the negative aspects of their country instead of focusing on the positive ones.

I agree. Some days back even a member said the same thing about movies being made on topics like sanitation etc. The member's concern was that this outs India in a negative light and gives people a reason to mock our country.

But, i think unless something untrue is being shown, then it is okay. We should accept our flaws because as a developing nation we aren't supposed to be perfect.

I was glad they made that toilet movie. I remember Matt Damon praising Akshay K for it and Akki tweeted that article. We ARE a third world country and we have umpteen issues. It's okay to talk about them sensibly without sounding like you are looking down or disgusted by your own country.

Agar negative aspects ko highlight nahi karo ghe to fix kaise karo ghe? They'll keep getting ignored for the sake of "baki countries kya kahe ghi" and at the end they'll become such huge issues that they'll ruin their own country. What will these people say then? Ke kisi ne issues ke bare mein baat nahi ki and that's why they got out of hand? SMH.

It's easy for other BW celebs to jump on those speaking against these negative aspects cuz they're not the ones being affected by them. Aur jo log affect ho rahe ha unki awaaz he nahi ha country mein so I'm GLAD that movies like Toilet are being made. More celebs should speak up against these negative issues and do something to solve them instead of ignoring them.

As an Italian it bothers me so much when others stereotype us all as the "mafia, pasta and pizza" people or think that all parts of Italy are the same (there's a huge huge difference from here in the north and the south). The thing is no one talked about the issues in the south until recently and that's why today it's in the state it is. If you go up to someone from southern Italy they'll keep denying it cuz of pride and blame it on the media or "northerners" spreading rumours. And it's this kind of attitude that's stopping things from getting better. Which is such a shame considering many of the gorgeous and worth visiting places are in the southern part of Italy. :/

I started ranting again lol to sum up I agree with the tweet and I think negative aspects should be highlighted so they can be solved.

I sort of agree. About the movie, I completely agree that there is no problem in highlighting the issues of the country, because only then are they going to be solved. It brings awareness.
But on a different level, I'll say that some people go too far with talking negatively about their own country. That, I think is avoidable. Like how, on a smaller scale, you might have problems with how your family functions, under your parents, but you don't really go about harping on about their flaws all over the place. So, yeah there needs to be a balance.

Agree with the tweets and what Anjali said. 👏

However, sometimes I feel some film-makers go over the board in highlighting only the negative content of our country (and mostly because poverty and negativity sells more) rather than just showing it as it is and leaving it to the judgment of audience. There are movies like Slumdog which cashes on highlighting through and through negative things of our country, then there is the movie like Million Dollar Arm which also highlights all the superstitions, population and poverty but in a more subjective way.

It's an individual choice how one wants to see India to be portrayed in global map. Guess I prefer the second category mentioned above. When one makes documentary, one has full liberty to show it as it is. But when one tries to sell his product, I won't like it if that's done by not just highlighting but almost poking it in my eye in every frame of the movie. So I prefer movies like MDA over SM.

Keeping TEPK and other BW movies aside since it hardly attracts any global audience. 😊
