Still Sleepless

Dead tired or worn out?' He sighed deeply. Was he actually trying to figure out which of these two descriptions would fit his state of mind better? Too tired to think about this, or anything else for that matter, he sat up in bed.

After checking the time, Shivaay realised it was still the middle of the night. Not even an hour had passed by since he had closed his grey-blue eyes. A fact which clarified why he felt like he had closed his eyes for merely five minutes.

Why can't I sleep?!' Shivaay fluffed up his pillow aggressively. He turned over and plunged his head onto the pillow, feeling annoyed.

There..! There it was. The truth.. The actual reason for his sleeplessness. Shivaay was staring at Annika's face while she slept.

At least one of us is getting some sleep.' he thought.

A cocktail of mixed emotions took over. Somehow, her presence got him excited, anxious, scared and calm at the same time. How was that even possible? The situation he had created, their so called marriage, his family, Daksh, Tia, the business, the media. All of this had caused a riot in his life and his heart. There was just too much to consider.

The sight of her in his bed strangely appealed to him. A deep suppressed desire to have this, to have her, for the rest of his life twirled in his heart and in his mind.

It is as it should be. She should be with me every night for the rest of my life. Our lives.'

The unrealistic thought of a life with her had taken a hold of him for the past half hour.

Divorce, let her go against my will or Captivity, keep her here with me against her will?'

Obviously, divorce was the only sane solution in this matter. But why couldn't the Happily ever after' fairytale be an option for them? He smiled sarcastically. Yeah right! As if the great Shivaay Singh Oberoi believes in fairytales!'

While pondering on how their lives together could be, or should be, he managed to fall asleep. Briefly.

Shivaay's not so subtle movements were registered unconsciously by Annika. She had fallen into a light sleep, while scheming and plotting on how to take revenge on this evil blue eyed devil, but was now slowly awakening from it. She was feeling annoyed. Annoyed that Shivaay's restlessness woke her up, just when she was about to strangle him in her dream.

As she opened her eyes, reality slapped her in the face right away. She saw his face, seemingly in a deep carefree sleep. Her mood had not changed at all. In fact, she could feel her blood boil. Annika had never felt so much anger and disappointment for one person as she had felt today. For a second she thought about strangling him in reality and made that gesture with her hands near his neck, emotions clearly visible on her face.

Well how typical! Mr. Shaitan Singh Oberoi is sound asleep. Of course..! Why would he have sleepless nights? He got what he wanted!'

She looked at him again. If this all would not have taken place.. If all could be forgotten.. This would have been a perfect picture. Him.. Her.. Together.. Happy.. Just like in the movies.. But it had taken place..! And she could not forget nor forgive.

Why is this night not coming to an end?!' She turned over, staring at the moon, until she finally fell asleep. Briefly.

Both Shivaay and Annika had wondered, how their lives could have been like, if only the situation was different.

What if..?' had been their last question, their last thought, before they fell asleep. An answer was what followed in their dreams.

A dream or a nightmare? That was still to be decided.
