Sona had just put her kids to sleep. She had come back early from her work as dev was out on a business meet. It had been decided he would work from home for the few years till the kids were big enough to handle themselves. Really, what a sweetheart he was. The day he told her this, as if reading her mind, with sincerity in his eyes and that warm smile... She had just melted as a puddle and thrown herself in his arms. How thankful she was to have him!
But this time when she heard about this meeting, she was the one to insist him to go. He never told but she knew how difficult it was to handle the kids alone. And anyways, recently after big success she wanted to give herself some time with her kids. After all, she wasn't lying when she had told soha that she (and Now shubh) were her biggest achievements.
So he wanted to give him a little me time as well. And she knew that he will enjoy it.
Anyways, the problem was that she was missing him. She would not in a hundred years admit it to him because he will never let her live it down... But she did. She misses his warm hugs after she came back after a tired day, the warm tasty food that he had become an expert in making now and their little me time after putting of the kids to sleep. She missed everything. Just him.
All these thoughts were going through her mid as she patted her little one to sleep. She kissed him on his head and put him in his cub. Turning to her daughter, she put the covers over her and kissed her as well. Only the bed lamp was on.
It was a cool night and she went and sat in the small window seat. It was her and dev's special place were they would sit and talk for long hours. But alas she was alone today.
Dev had said he would be engaged in the meeting today when she had called her in the morning. And he wasn't due before two days. So what to do?
Deep in her thoughts, it was some time before she heard the knock on her door. It was Ma.
The lady she had really come to think of as her own mother. And could share anything with. After dev and her kids she was the person she is closest to.
She gave her a warm big smile. She hadn't seen her whole day. She took the cups of coffee from her hand, kept it beside and hugged her tight. She smiled as it was reciprocated. She felt close to dev somehow. That calmed her a bit.
'aye na Ma. Aap bolti toh mai hi bana leti na coffee' she said as they walked to the window seat.
'areh nahi. Tui thak kar aye thi na. Phir pura shaam bachhoh ke pichche chala gaya toh itna toh mai kar hi sakti hu.' she said with a genuine smile.
'yeh acha kiya aapne. Mai waise bhi bore ho rahi thi. Ab hum log baat kar sakte hai'. She smiled happily.
She didn't tell but being her mother, ishwari could tell. She decided to tease a bit.
'bachche so gaye thik se? ' she asked.
'nahi. Bohot der se soye maa. Bohot pareshan kiya aaj. Soha toh papa papa kar rahi thi aur shubh woh toh godh me ate hi rona shuru kar diya. Papa ki godh ki aadat ho gayi hai shayad! '...she laughed to herself.
Hearing the mention of dev she smiled too. She was missing him too but not as much as someone else it seems.
Her teasing continued.
'toh chal na mere kamre mai jate hai raat bhar baate karenge. Mai office ki sare baate bataungi ' she said.
Sona crunched up her nose thinking of how to decline respectfully. Truth is in this room with the kids and especially with coffee and on this seat, she would feel closest to him. She would talk to his photo for hours.
'nahi ma aap thak gayi houngi puri raat jagna thik nahi hoga. Aur bachche bhi dev ko miss kar rahe hai toh mujhe yaha hi rahna chanhiye. Raat ko uth gaye toh? '
She said.
'areh toh hum konse dur hai. Yahi agla kamra toh hai', she said again tugging at her hand.
Nahi ma woh...she said biting her lips trying to think of something else.
'nahi MA... Aur woh aise bhi mujhe thora kaam bhi hai toh mai woh khatam kar leti hu '
'areh par abhi toh tera project khatam hua. Isliye toh chutti li na tune?
Shayad kisike yaad mai sab bhul gayi' ...she said with a slight smile.
Sona got a hint of what she was getting at. Oh god! Was it that obvious! How do you explain to you mother in law... That she wanted to hug him, kiss him hard, and sleep in his arms in their bed '
'nahi MA mujhe dev ki bilkul yaad nahi arahi'
'maine dev kab kaha? '..she smiled, happy as she finally got her daughter in law to accept it.
Sona smiled. Oh god was she really blushing at mention of his name? Still? And what's with these butterflies in her stomach! For god sake your mother in law is here Sona'. She lowered her eyes and smiled.
'toh mera shak sayi tha '
'kaisa shak?'...she asked looking at her now.
'ki sirf bachche nahi, unki mammi bhi mere bete ko miss kar rahi hai'...she teased.
Sona blushed. 'maa, aap bhi naaa...'
Ishwari laughed and caresses her face...tuh aaj sham ko jaise bechen ghum rahi thi usise pata laga ki tu dev ko miss kar rahi thi'.
'isiliye yaha bethi thi na? '
Sona gave up now as it was no use hiding. And she didn't want to.
Ha MA. Miss toh kar rahi thi. Pichle din mai mai bohot busy bhi rahate thi na. Ab thori din kaam kam hai aur bacchon ka bhi school hai...par dekho abhi yeh meeting ani thi ' she cribbed like a baby as ishwari laughed, amused.
She put her hand on sona's and comforted her.
'pata hai par sirf do din aur ' sona smiled.
'aur tabtak uski MA hai na '
Sona gave her a questioning look.
She went out and brought out a box. Filled with dev's childhood memories.
She knew it would make her close to dev.
She enveloped her in a bug hug, thanking her.
Both the ladies shared the memories the whole night with coffee... And dev was never Far away!
