What religion is the hero practicing ?

I have never watched this show , but a few days back saw a promo which made me very curious. The hero tell s the heroine that she tricked him and made him watch a movie , which is against his religion . So what religion is he following ? I assumed they were Hindus looking at their attire ! Is he member of some cult or follows a leader ! Thank you in advance .

He said it was against his dharma. Not religion, here, he meant his beliefs, more like his principles. No religion bans entertainment, haha. :D

Uma, the hero is good at heart but he was influenced with some rigid beliefs prior to dharm since his childhood by massisa. At a very nascent stage of his life, he surrendered himself towards this beliefs. His mother is bedridden so his massisa took the onus & ingrained these beliefs inside him. Even though he is adhered to his beliefs but still he watched the movie for the sake of his wife's happiness whom he loves wholeheartedly. He is basically that insurmountable wall of that family who is defending everyone.

He is following hindu religion ...but long long time ago my grand mother told me that they had such restrictions ...and girls education is still restricted in many parts ...so its a good subject to discuss...

That's what I understand anyway. I'm not a Hindu but have lots of Hindu friends and I love they Hindu religious texts. I've not read them because I never managed to get my hands on them but from school, Internet, friends and Ramayan serial, Mahabharata, and Mahadev serial I kept hearing the word dharm being used in different contexts.

Initially I was confused, but then I understood. Dharm is one word for religion, righteousness, and principles. It's meaning changes according to context. It would make no sense to tell the world that the Hindu religion prohibits entertainment. It does not, all Gods and Godesses would do things to keep themselves entertained, then how can the religion itself prohibit it.

So I am quite sure by dharm, Uma refers to the principles he himself follows. For example, he told Kanak that forgetting the world his God created is adharm, is probably not written in any text, but he believes so because he is a devotee to his God and this does not want to disrespect.

His cultural beliefs (dharm) don't allow him to let girls study beyond 8th grade. Because he believes educated women are too egoistic (ironic he married one and is in love with her too but NVM that xD). But Saraswati, in the religion is the Goddess of knowledge. Which is why Uma will be supporting Kanak later on.

I believe that Uma is a staunch follower of Shivji, but then he also has that typical mentality (which has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with orthodox beliefs) that was prevalent in orthodox India and still is in most villages now.

And if Ladnun is a small town/village then a mentality like this is very common. Where people confuse dharm and religion everyday.

But this is just what my theory is.
