I agree. In a sea of awful Male leads with no brains, ego and "confusion" being their middle name, Neil Khanna stands out as a beacon of light. If only they right more guys like him!
Most of the time the male leads on Indian TV are confounding. Sometimes you get one you like, and sometimes they are complex and interesting, like Sharvan from EDKV, Aahil from QH or Ishaan/Rizwan from PKHD or Kabhir from Reporters. (some of the shows I followed). But Neil's clarity and lack of "confusion" make him a character to watch. He knows what he wants and once he's clear on it, he will act on it. During Rhea times he was frustrating. But there he was clear too. He made a commitment and he was sticking with it. His feelings were telling him one thing, but he was suppressing it and going on the course he had set for himself. Until irrevocably he realises the error of his ways. He is by no means perfect. That is why he thought he would do a fake marriage with Rhea and use that to bust Daya and later explain his position to Rhea. He was being very naive. I guess he thought coz Rhea tried to run from the wedding too, she would be willing to help. He read Rhea wrong and underestimated her influence by Daya! That's why even after the marriage to Avni, he didn't realise what level Rhea had sunk to, till the Birth cert drama. But once he stopped fighting himself about his feelings for Avni, he had clarity. I think it was mostly there from the bomb blast. Even before he was very into the marriage after the Maddy Bua, Kareena incident. He was actually into it from Day 1, but he told himself it was only to bust Daya, but once that was over, he still very much wanted Avni in his life. But he was not sure she did. So he offered her an out. But we saw how hurt he was, and again hurt when she said she will stay but for Bebe. Long story short, he finally accepted what he feels and there is no going back. What he told Shweta "Main kab tak apne aapkoJhoot boltarahunga?" He accepted he was lying to himself. Trying to pretend he was not in love with Avni.He finally tells his Mother what he has known for months. He has moved on. He loves Avni and he's ready to tell her how he feels and start a new life with her. Finally, put the past and the pain and guilt associated with it behind him. Telling Shweta was putting that final seal on it. Making it official. Finally, tell his Mother, Avni is not going anywhere coz I LOVE her. So you need to accept her, coz I don't want to lose you, and I can't loose her. Most logical conversation a son can have with his Mother. This the way to handle your unreasonable Mother. Tell her that he needs her and his wife to get on, coz he needs them both. He doesn't want to choose. "Muje chunne keliye majboormat karo". In short, he is saying, he will choose his wife if he has to choose. So don't make me choose Mom! If only they show more "sensible" talks like this between son's and Mother's and not one's full of high drama and emotional blackmail or insults?I just love the writers of NK for trying so hard to keep most characters logical and consistent. At least the main characters have remained true to their core values. Love that about the show and how everything makes sense and inter-related to each other. No characters or plots usually go to waste. This is one show which I never get tired of praising. I love the actors too. Especially Zain and Aditi. My find is Zain. He's superb!
