By giving away Anami, Satrupa protected her - deliberately or inadvertently. Had she given away Vatsalya, probably she would have been still accused of protecting the boy at the cost of the girl from Laal Mahal ka Kaal. Satrupa had a tough call to make. Either way, she would be accused of preference for the boy.

The one and only explanation CVs can give so that we do not feel very bad about Satrupa is that she gave away the stronger one.

The complicated explanation could be that Vikram has a daughter too. And she was never ever considered as heir. Nor her kids. He believes only in male heirs and sons of male heirs. And that too only if they did not commit any major blunder. Satrupa was given a free hand as she gave him a heir he wanted. Maybe that is the deal he had with her while she was carrying. That could be the reason for the daughter being given away. And come to think of it - maybe Adhiraj is Baldev's sister's son. But then you cannot have the romantic angle. Adopted son maybe ?😆

ATM, i would like to delude myslef that she didn't know whether she was giving away a son or a daughter.
She had to part with one of her babies to protect them, so she just did that.

The flashback scene showed Satrupa asking Damo to take care of her child after all she is her daughter. And when the child is given to Murari, Damo mentions had she not been a girl her fate would have been different.

All this gives us the impression that Satrupa gave away the girl child coz one of the children had to be sent away and having the boy with her meant having a heir.

Had she sent the boy and kept the girl then this battle for inheritance would have been fought long back as they might not allowed a girl child as a heir.
