I find Koimoi, Indicine pretty trashy. I can get behind Tubelight being below average, but Nahta's obssession with Hrithik is too much. Kaabil superhit, Krishh 3 at 270 Cr is ridicilous.

At the end of the day, people will believe whatever is convenient for them and their favorites. Since BOI hardly caters to a fanbase, except maybe Salman's, they'll be hated by many.

For the collections, it's the best site available. Almost all papers and news outlets quote BOI's collections these days. No other trade analyst or site possesses as comprehensive data as BOI.

That said, their verdicts and articles are all over the place. They don't have a set system of verdicts and that's the reason they keep changing verdicts of movies.

Say for example, with Bahubali 2 becoming the biggest ATBB since HAHK, they're now trying to find a new verdict for the biggest blockbusters, or a verdict that's in-between blockbuster and ATBB. Soon, Bajrangi, Dangal, PK, and 3I would be downgraded from ATBB because they're not as big as Bahubali 2, Gadar, HAHK, Sholay, MEA, etc.

They're also rather inept at explaining the nuances of boxoffice, cinema as art, and the film business dynamics as a whole. If you come up with terms like DCH syndrome, you'll find it hard to convince people. They do need a content writer who can translate their ideas eloquently and could contribute in explaining boxoffice more efficiently.

The good aspect about BOI is that it does accept its mistakes if you can present your argument with facts.

Overall, you can trust its collections, but don't trust its verdicts and opinion articles. They're hogwash generally.

Of course Salman fans would find it reliable, because BOI is biased about Salman (and a few more stars), and also strongly biased against a certain few.

But really? What about them constantly changing numbers and verdicts years after a movie released?

Taran is more pro-Salman than BOI. BOI is pro-SRK, anti-HR/Aamir. BOI does like Salman more than Aamir, HR, and Akshay, however.

Taran, on the other hand, is a Salman fanboy. Since Dabbang, he's given every Salman blockbuster an ATBB verdict. I think he even declared PRDP as a blockbuster. 😛
