Successful International Festival Film Tu Hai Mera Sunday' releasing on 6th October

Milind Dhaimade is all set to make his directorial debut in Bollywood with Tu Hai Mera Sunday, which will be releasing worldwide on 6th October, 2017

The movie starring Barun Sobti ,Shahana Goswami, Manvi Gagroo, Rasika Dugal, Vishal Malhotra, Avinash Tiwary, Jay Upadhyay, Shivkumar Subramaniam and Nakul Bhalla is about five regular guys looking for space in Mumbai to play their favourite sport, football every Sunday. Dodging the crowded bustle and choked streets of the city, these five 30-something find an outlet for their daily frustrations playing Sunday soccer on the posh Juhu Beach, until fate decrees otherwise in the gentle rom com Tu Hai Mera Sunday. (You Are My Sunday)

Produced by Varun Shah, Tu Hai Mera Sunday made a world premiere at the 60thThe British Film Institute London Film Festival (BFI), 2016, and an Indian Premiere at MAMI, 2016. It was well received at both the festivals. Later on, Tu Hai Mera Sunday went on to do a round of various prestigious festivals around the world like 17th New York Indian Film Festival, Cinequest Film Festival, 2017 and Nashville Film Festival, 2017. The film even won the Audience Choice Award for Best Film at the Cinequest Film Festival earlier this year.
Milind Dhaimade comes from an advertising background, marking this as his debut in writing and direction of a feature film.
Looking forward to the release of Tu Hai Mera Sunday, director Milind Dhaiamde said, "Until a film reaches its audiences, it only remains a dream. I'm so happy that this incredible dream, not just mine but that of a brilliantly talented collective, is finally coming alive.
When asked about his experience with Tu Hai Mera Sunday, Barun Sobti said, "It was an extremely satisfying experience shooting for this film. The film has gone around the world and has garnered a lot of accolades but personally what is most satisfying for me are the reactions that I've seen on people's faces after they've watched the film. It has been liked by one and all. I'm very excited to know how the Indian audience receives it because after all it's a story about our country.
Shahana Goswami, who was last seen in Rock On 2 said, "Tu Hai Mera Sunday has been a project that drew me in from the moment I read the script. It's a story that tells you so many different things about the little little problems of modern day urban middle class lives while still remaining so positive and uplifting. Working with Milind and the entire amazing cast of this film has been far beyond my imagination of perfection. It was extremely well organised and the instantaneous strong bond the whole team had was magic. I auditioned for this film while I was auditioning Paris (to see if I could move there) and shot it before I finally shifted base to Paris.
Adding to that she said, "This film is a release in India for me after 2011, and I have done 5 international films since then that travelled all around the world. This is exactly the kind of films I wish to be part of, that are independent, soulful, and breaking all the cliches and stereotypes of characters and casting (my recently won award for Best Actress at the Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival is a proof of that, where they recognised it as an unusual portrayal of a female character in a film essentially about boys) This film that we thought was a quintessentially Indian film has been deeply appreciated and loved all around the world because of how well made it is both in craft and intention. I can't wait for the film to be shown in India where we have no doubt it will be loved by each and everyone. All we need is to get people to come see this treat.

The film was received well by the jury members as well by the audience of New York.

Still from the film 'Tu Hai Mera Sunday'.

Mumbai: The movie Tu Hai Mera Sunday' seems to be sticking to its acronym Sunday perfectly, and everyone was in celebratory mood after the film had its grand premiere at New York Indian Film Festival.

Tu Hai Mera Sunday' also referred as You are My Sunday' was the closing film at the festival and to everybody's pleasant surprise it received a standing ovation from everyone present at the festival.

The film was received well by the jury members as well by the audience of New York.

Present at the screening were cast members, Shahana Goswami, Rasika Dugal, director and writer Milind Dhaimade and producer Varun Shah.

Also present at the screening were Konkona Sen Sharma and Adil Hussain.

The film has previously travelled to film festivals including the homegrown MAMI 2016 where the film was received with packed audiences. Internationally the film has won Best Narrative Feature (Audience Choice).

It was even screened at the Cinequest Film Festival in March and had been selected by the Oscar qualifying Nashville Film Festival.

It was a moment of pride for the cast and crew of the film to receive such a great response on a foreign soil.

The film is a heart-warming story of five friends from Mumbai, trying to escape the madness of everyday life and their trysts to find happiness and love.

Set in the unique backdrop of modern day urban middle-class society, it explores human relationships and its nuances once there's a ban put on playing football at Juhu beach.

Rasika Dugal who was present at the festival shared, "It was lovely to watch our film with an audience in New York. I felt the audience yesterday was with the film from the word go and they were in peels of laughter through much of the film. Every joke was enjoyed, every detail was noticed and overall the spirit of the film celebrated. I notice many new things in the film with every screening and it's exciting to see how every audience makes you watch your own film differently."

Director Milind Dhaimade said, "Watching the way people enjoy the film is always gratifying. As the world enjoys this film, can't wait to show this to audiences in India."

Tu Hai Mera Sunday (You Are My Sunday)

LONDON FILM FESTIVAL 2016
HANNAH DIXON
15TH OCTOBER 2016
Public screenings
15th October 2016 6.00pm at Vue West End
16th October 2016 12.15pm at Cineworld Haymarket

Written and directed by Milind Dhaimade, Tu Hai Mera Sunday (You Are My Sunday) is a simple story focusing on the importance of friendship and having hope.

Based on the director's own experiences of growing up in Mumbai, the film centres on five young men and their attempts at navigating through their work and personal lives. Brought together by a love for playing football, the men meet every Sunday as a form of escapism, allowing them to enjoy a game together and forget about their troubles for a few hours. Following an incident involving an elderly stranger, the group is banned from their usual playing ground and must find a new place to play within the crowded city of Mumbai.

The narrative follows each man through his own struggles and shows how the individuals deal with their problems in different ways. The bond between them is an important theme running throughout the story, as we witness how strongly they care for each other and just how deep-rooted their love is. The entire cast excels in their given role, and it is easy to see how much they enjoyed working together. The audience is invited into their personal spaces, and as a result, we are led to truly invest in their will to find the happiness they are looking for.

More than just a film about football, Tu Hai Mera Sunday (You Are My Sunday) is a movie about all the ways our lives can link together and the importance of having your own space to be yourself. Each story feels so believable and every one of the main characters is extremely well-developed and easy to care about. What seems from the outset to be a simple story ends up carrying more heart than you would ever expect.
