Mumbai: The movie Tu Hai Mera Sunday' seems to be sticking to its acronym Sunday perfectly, and everyone was in celebratory mood after the film had its grand premiere at New York Indian Film Festival.
Tu Hai Mera Sunday' also referred as You are My Sunday' was the closing film at the festival and to everybody's pleasant surprise it received a standing ovation from everyone present at the festival.
The film was received well by the jury members as well by the audience of New York.
Present at the screening were cast members, Shahana Goswami, Rasika Dugal, director and writer Milind Dhaimade and producer Varun Shah.
Also present at the screening were Konkona Sen Sharma and Adil Hussain.
The film has previously travelled to film festivals including the homegrown MAMI 2016 where the film was received with packed audiences. Internationally the film has won Best Narrative Feature (Audience Choice).
It was even screened at the Cinequest Film Festival in March and had been selected by the Oscar qualifying Nashville Film Festival.
It was a moment of pride for the cast and crew of the film to receive such a great response on a foreign soil.
The film is a heart-warming story of five friends from Mumbai, trying to escape the madness of everyday life and their trysts to find happiness and love.
Set in the unique backdrop of modern day urban middle-class society, it explores human relationships and its nuances once there's a ban put on playing football at Juhu beach.
Rasika Dugal who was present at the festival shared, "It was lovely to watch our film with an audience in New York. I felt the audience yesterday was with the film from the word go and they were in peels of laughter through much of the film. Every joke was enjoyed, every detail was noticed and overall the spirit of the film celebrated. I notice many new things in the film with every screening and it's exciting to see how every audience makes you watch your own film differently."
Director Milind Dhaimade said, "Watching the way people enjoy the film is always gratifying. As the world enjoys this film, can't wait to show this to audiences in India."

Mumbai: Shahana Goswami and Barun Sobti-starrer Tu Hai Mera Sunday has been selected as one of the top 'must watch' films at the forthcoming Jio MAMI 18th Mumbai Film Festival, according to a poll conducted by the festival organisers.
In a new audience building initiative, Jio MAMI's 18th Mumbai Film Festival With Star conducted a poll on Facebook on October 14, asking the audience to list their 'must watch' films in the festival.
Tu Hai Mera Sunday emerged as the top choice among the must watch films in the audience poll, followed by Yours lovingly, A Death in the Gunj, and Lipstick Under My Burkha, read a statament.
Out of the 23 movies, Tu Hai Mera Sunday grabbed the maximum votes in less than 24 hours. It is leading with more than 200 votes at present.
Delighted by the results, writer-director Milind Dhaimade said: "As rank outsiders in the filmmaking world, one always wonders if we'll get noticed. It's nice to see the film get this kind of attention."
The film, which has already been premiered at the prestigious 60th BFI London Film Festival recently, is ready for its Indian premiere at the 18th Mumbai Film Festival, 2016 in India Gold' category that screens the best of Indian films from across the country.
Tu Hai Mera Sunday is competing with Konkona Sen-Sharma's directorial debut A Death in the Gunj and Alankrita Shrivastava's Lipstick Under My Burkha.
Set in Mumbai, Tu Hai Mera Sunday revolves around five middle class amateur footballers and their everyday struggle.
The movie also features Rasika Dugal, Avinash Tiwari, Vishal Malhotra and Maanvi Gagroo.
The festival is set to kick off on October 20.
