My film idea will not be made into a film, at least not for another decade or so. So I do not mind sharing it. The idea came to me listening to the song "Jesse's Girl".
The title of the film is "Jassi Ki Chori". The title track is a remake of Jesse's girl.
The movie opens with Jassi on his wedding day facing his fiance and ex-girlfriend and narrates the story of how he got into this pickle.
Jassi or Jasbir, has an on again off again relationship with his live-in girlfriend Sam (Sameeksha), much to the chagrin of his parents. The problem is Sam who often breaks off with him because she's confused but he wins her back again. She has had relationships with other men, which is why Jassi's parents say she is flaky and question her character, but best friends since high school, Jassi always defends her. Finally, after the most recent breakup Sam moves out and Jassi's parents finally convince him to agree to meet a girl Naina they have picked out for him.
Initially, he is hesitant but after meeting Naina a few times he agrees to the marriage. Sam is upset that Jassi is moving on, but wants to be supportive. However, her coworker Vikram who has had a crush on Naina for a long time but has been afraid to approach due to her strict parents convinces her otherwise. He thinks Jassi is unsuitable for Naina, and convinces Sam that she should try to win Jassi back so he has a chance with Naina. Sam reluctantly agrees.
Sam befriends Naina. Even though everyone cautions Jassi and Naina that Sam is trying to win him back, Jassi trusts Sam. Eventually, Sam and Naina become genuine friends. Sam wants Naina to be happy and abandons her plans to win back Jassi but is confused about why she feels jealous of the relationship. Meanwhile, Jassi and Naina get engaged.
During a night out celebrating the engagement, Sam and Naina get accidentally close and it finally dawns on Sam why she is jealous. She has fallen for Naina. She also realizes that she has been gay all along. That is why she has been confused and unfulfilled all along. She was never into the men she dated and slept with. She kept going back to Jassi because of the safety net of long term friendship.
Confused, Sam decides to come out to her parents who are modern and have been accepting of her life choices. When she comes out her parents both say finally, and how they have wondered when she would realize that she's been gay all along. They ask her who's the girl and she confesses its too late. Her parents encourage her to express her feelings even if its a heartbreak because she will regret it later.
So Sam confesses to Naina. Initially, Naina rebuffs Sam accusing her of trying to ruin her relationship with Jassi. She later apologizes and invites Sam to the bachelorette weekend trip to be friends again. There Naina confesses that she has feelings for Sam too. She comes from a very conservative family. She thought that getting married was the solution to her same sex attractions. After bonding over their fears and experiences, they sleep together.
Later distraught Naina is terrified of the consequences. Sam is extremely guilty of betraying Jassi and wants to confess, but Naina dissuades her.
In the meantime Vikram is initially mad at Sam for foiling their plans. But when he finds out Sam has fallen for Naina, he is amused and laughs at his fate. He tells Sam he gets it because "Jassi's girl is the kind of girl everyone wants to be with". He encourages her to not let go and not be afraid like he was.
Sam realizes that she loves Naina confesses to Jassi on his wedding day and asks for his help in getting them together. Jassi initially suspects that Sam is not over him and trying another plot to ruin the wedding. Meanwhile, Vikram who fears Sam won't stand for her love goes and tells Jassi to help Sam making Jassi realize Sam is genuinely in love with Naina.
Pan back to the beginning where Jassi is confronting his fiance and ex-girlfriend musing that most men would be stuck choosing between the ex and fiance, but he is stuck choosing whether to get married or let them get together.
Then Vikram takes over the narrative and says that Jassi's girl is the one that broke hearts and created chaos, like Jassi becoming the first man eloping with his wife from the marriage altar so she could be with his best friend. Then he says people should not feel sorry for Jassi because Jassi did find another girl, but they should feel sorry for Vikram because Jassi's girl is again someone he has crushed on but been afraid to confess. Then he encourages the audience to always let people know how they feel, because you never know.
