Hey there all the lovely people!!
Me is high on fanfic today. So here I am with a second OS of the day. It has the cult name but it's entirely different from the fairytale.
Its a short one. So please bear. Apologies in advance.
OS : Beauty and the Beast.
It had been 2 months since Kanak started working with Uma in his hospital, although their relationship hadn't progressed much on personal level, but still they had matured more as human beings and professionals. Massi was initially reluctant to let Kanak work, but Kanak was adamant on treating women same as men, she decided to take the responsibility on herself, by working with Uma, Massi gave into her stubborn persistence with stern regard to equal devotion as a wife and Bahu of the house.
He saw her taking notes down of symptoms from a lady patient, he looked closely and very intently, something he had failed to notice before she looked thin and wary, she was enthusiastic with the patient but her eyes looked tired. He knew that no matter with how much dedication she worked around the clock, she was failing - she was failing herself, and more than that he was failing her.
It was time for his evening meditation, but all he could see was Kanak, no matter which direction he turned his mind, Even her thoughts were stubborn as her. They were ideal husband and wife for the world, but they knew it was a farce, they hardly spoke except for sharing patients details and work stuff. Their room had two occupants who hardly ever whispered even to themselves ever since that night, the night where he burned all the bridges, the night which was to be of their unison was a night which sealed their fate, that they could never be united. She had wanted her shop back, he gave it with a price tag attached. He knew it was wrong on every level, but still the thought of not having her around killed every other thought. He became the beast he never knew existed he chained Kanak to himself for life, in exchange for that petty shop and Kanak became the beauty trapped with him. Everything had a price and he asked for her, she agreed nonetheless but something between them died, which wasn't even present in the first place. They never spoke, they never talked, they never shared even a glance, they started working together, yet they were two strangers who shared every moment of the day, yet couldn't reach out and feel the other. He acknowledged his error, he was selfish and that was the worst part, he knew he was selfish and yet he couldn't come to term to part with her. But today he saw her in a different light, she sat there in the sunshine that poured in from the window, taking notes and after the patient left, arranging the vials and stuff around, his eyes never left her, they followed her observing her routine, all he could see that work and schedule was consuming her, that fiery Kanak who could rattle the tiger cage was gone. He had lost her in his obsession, his selfishness, his monstrosity, his guilt killed him second by second, minute by minute. For he knew he had made a mistake but his guilt gave no definite solution...
