Kunal M Shah

Ekta Kapoor

Ekta Kapoor is all set to hark back to the mother of all drama. She has decided to film the Mahabharat. And she's obviously planning to do it on a magnum scale. The show is expected to star all the top actors of the Balaji stable. It will go on the floors in the last week of February or the first week of March and will be aired mid-2008, on one of the recently-launched TV channels.

Even Ekta Kapoor has a first, after all these years in the TV industry. This will be her first attempt at mythology.

Our well-placed source says, "Ekta is filming the Mahabharat. And, knowing her, she will not leave any stone unturned to make it one of the biggest shows of our time. The preparations for the shoot are already underway and Ekta has already started speaking to all the major actors in Balaji. It will be a daily and will have a huge budget."

Our source has some of the names of the stars too. "Some of the actors who Ekta has already spoken to include Chetan Hansraj, Naman Shaw, Ronit Roy, Shabbir Aluwalia, Aamir Ali, Jay Bhanushali, Karan Patel, Ram Kapoor and Hiten Tejwani. She has also spoken to Gauri Pradhan and Saakshi Tanwar. However it is yet unclear who will play the five Pandavas and the important characters among the Kauravas. The character of Krishna will be finalised soon," says the source.

When contacted, Ekta Kapoor refused to comment on her grand plan.

Incidentally Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi is also making the Mahabharata, which will also go on air at around the same time. There are also reports of the Ramayan being remade by the Sagars.

Oh great Seeing the way she treats religion in her K shows, I fear for the safety of our sacred texts 🤢 And what, is it going to be called 'Kurukshetra' to keep with the K tradition? 😕 I don't know - the Sagars did it best...who wants to watch a DAILY show with the Balaji factory's finest as our gods, kings and queens??

Thanks for the article.

😆 I dont know why i feel like laughing after reading the article 😆 😆 ... I cant imagine the typical balaji stars playing such famous characters about whom we have heard since childhood and already have a picturisation in our minds! How ever can these balaji stars who play these typical characters replace such legendary mythological characters?!

Or maybe it should be Ekta's version of Mahabharat and can be named something like 'Mahabharat - Ek Balaji Katha', or Kekta's Mahabharat (like Ramanand Sagar's Ramayana) 😆 !

Knowing Ekta she might even tamper with history and bring in her own twists and turns to keep the viewers glued to TV. Some of her typical twists can be :

Arjun turns negative inbetween 😲

When Krishna is giving Arjun Geetha Upadesh, someone from the rival gang overhears and goes and gives it to Dhuryodhan 😆

Paanjali or Dhraupathi might fall in love with a 6th guy (an extramarital affair)

The negative gang or 'Kauravas' main character would have a background sound like 'nikaaaah' for Komolika 😆

No offense to anyone, I'm just joking, cos cant predict Ekta she would do anythign for higher TRPs!

Are you talking about Ramanand Sagar's Shri Krishna or BR Chopra's Mahabharat?

@topic: This will either be the funniest show ever or the scariest. Maybe both. 😳

Lmao Dewdrop Peal I agree haha.

She'll play background music like instead of Sasha sasha it'll say Dusashan sashan sashan sashan shaaaaaashan 😆

And don't mind Arjun turning negative, Krishna will turn negative, only to actually be positive.

😆 Dushasann part was really funny 😆😆!! Ekta wont even hesitate to do that...u can expect her to do all sorts of crack things like when showing Arjun and Paanchali, she might put background songs like 'kabhi na sukoon aaya, kabhi na karaar aaya, jabse hain tumse mujkoooo, pyar aaya' 😆!

@Kal - I meant the Sagars' Shri Krishna - that was my favourite growing up. But the Chopras' Mahabharata was a great epic too...I remember watching it as a child. Its almost as big a legend as the tale of the Mahabharata itself...

@Manoj - lol 😆

When Abhimanyu dies, there'll probably be Tere Dil Ka Rishta with Uttra, and then it'll be like a proper Indian serial, when Uttra's baby comes back to life again, but Ekta will probably bring Abhimanyu back too.

Whoa! Mahabharat from Ekta's factory? 😲 😆 ...but Mahabharat starts with an "M", not a "K".. 😉 😆 ...was just imagining what the web of all the Pandav-Kaurav relationship would like??! 😳 ...confusion will prevail as to who's 'Dadashri', 'Nanashri', 'Matashri', 'Bhratashri'...et al.. 😆...n how many 20 year leaps would this Mahabharat take? 🤣 🤣

I think when it comes to mythological soaps, the Ramanand Sagar Entertainment group stands unbeatable! 👏
