Saif Ali Khan: The real flagbearer of nepotism is the media

Saif Ali Khan cites examples of Taimur Ali Khan, AbRam Khan and Misha Kapoor to explain how media treat them like the next big thing.

The topic of nepotism has taken over Bollywood ever since Kangana Ranaut calledKaran Johar as the 'Flagbearer of Nepotism'. After that, the IIFA Awards 2017 saw Karan, Saif Ali Khan and Varun Dhawan poke fun at Kangana and Nepotism. Many took offence to the comments made by the trio and sided with Kangana.

Saif as a different take on nepotism, however. In an open letter in a leading daily, Saif said, "The real flagbearer of nepotism, I'd say is the media. Look at how they treat Taimur, Shahid's daughter Misha or even Shah Rukh's son AbRam. They photograph them and hype them up to be the next big thing and the child has no choice. From a young age, they have to deal with being celebrities, which they don't really deserve before they can even speak or talk, leave alone understand what is happening."

Meanwhile, Saif earlier spoke about the constant media infatuation on his son Taimur Ali Khan with a leading news portal and said, "Taimur gets written about like he's Elvis before he's even born. And so now when he's growing up, it's going to be really tough for us as parents to keep a level head on his shoulders and tell him, 'No, you are nothing. You haven't achieved anything until you've done it on your own'."

He added, "When he's 18, the press themselves will launch him. So where does the nepotism start? The producer is just an opportunist saying 'okay, let me market this'."
