"The major reason for Balaji Telefilms' success is the fact that our dailies and weeklies are about India - the real India. We take ethnic stories from middle class and mass India and we put them on air in a spruced up manner. We at Balaji understand the Indian ethos and we continuously strive to connect with our viewers. All the time - it is a religion with us to respond to our viewers feedback." Ekta Kapoor, keynote speaker at the Cable & Satellite Broadcasting Association of Asia's (Casbaa) conference.

I know Ekta Kapoor doesn't direct/produce TD but since she is such an inspiration to all the other serial makers, I thought of posting this here. If what I see on these soaps is the real India, then I need to visit this real India. The last time I visited my India, it didn't quite look the way Ekta presents it in her serials. The middle class or the upper class ladies didn't deck themselves everyday in gaudy jewelry and Silk saris like they were attending someone's marriage. They don't always live in a big joint family. Women don't spend all their time in the kitchen or back-stabbing each other. Middle class didn't live in big mansions. Middle class didn't jump from one marriage to another. They don't eavesdrop on every conversation going on in the house. They do mind their own business. But what do I know about real India and Indian values as it exists in Ektaland or in our case Guhaland.

Very well said Nisu, Agree with all your points 👏 👏 👏
Middle Class family members don't resurrect after multiple death & accidents with a new face, height, weight & speech 😕

haha I want to laugh at Ekta's statement 😆 Does she (and, of course, the Guhas) think we're fools?! I was just in India and attended a wedding there. I didn't even see the women decked out at the wedding like they are in these serials! Fine, we might have seen people getting married more than once but when was the last time we saw someone getting married to the same person 3-4 times?! 😆 or people coming back from dead right & left?!

If anything, these serials are only messing up with the audiences' brains. These serials show that all this is acceptable and it happens in real life when in reality it doesn't!

Thanks Nisu for sharing this with us.

Is this "middle class" the middle class she belongs to??

Maybe she thinks middle class means people whose fathers are actors....and they are richer than most of us 😕

Nisu, very well said my dear 👏👏👏. Ekta is living in a dreamland. She just doesn't know the real India. There is no morality left in her serials now. People like her and the Guhas must be and shunned but what to do, we are addicted to the Forum and we are aadat se majboor to watch the serial.

I've never been to india but i really can't imagine that Ekta portrays the "real India" as she calls it in her serials..........

I think we need to book a ward for ekta in our psych ward 😉 ........cos she is definitely confused 😆

👏 👏 Well said Nisu 👏 👏

And I agree with you all. These serial producers really do not live in ANY real world. 😡

Just like Mamta, I have never been to India either and have to say the serials do give the wrong impression of Indian life especially the females!
