Your brush with history and mysticism.

So there are lot many theories about this Aryan-Dravidian clash. some say it is history. some.. a myth. What is history?
as a famous person once said.. 'History is what victors write'.

i personally love history. though i loathe remembering dates, family trees, wars, more dates (to think of it our future generations will hate history lessons more for they will have to remember more dates unless there is world war 3 and we all perish. or earth says eff off to humans and explode. yeah i know i tend to have violent imagination at times.)

and yes.. i really feel strong emotions for the naatakiya rupantar of history shoved err shown by our tele lands geniuses. like 'sar kalam kardo in naamakuloke' kind of emotions.

History is such a fascinating concept.
unleashing the imagination.
the kings, the queens, the emperors, the power games, the patriotism, the traitors, the fearless, the magnificent, the cunning, the cult.
grit, glory, gumption.
blood, gore, death.
and living on forever in the history.. as a hero or a villain. but being immortal forever.

i so wish i could time travel. (besides being invisible, teleporting, ultra rich, epic awesome and other super powers.). i would love to see the history up close and personal. (maybe steal kohinoor while i am at it).

and then there is mysticism. sense of dejavu.
when i visit some old dilapidated or certain dark structures.. i get this sense of dejavu at times. hey.. i've been here before. past life maybe? i would love to think of myself as a bad ass freedom fighter in my last janam. for all i know i may have been a makkhi or macchar then.

and then i stepped into a temple where history and mysticism met.
Ramappa temple.

wiki says:

Ramappa Temple also known as the Ramalingeswara temple, is located 77 km from Warangal, the ancient capital of the Kakatiya dynasty, 157 km from Hyderabad in the state of Telangana in southern India. It lies in a valley at Palampet village of Venkatapur Mandal, in erstwhile Mulug Taluq of Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, a tiny village long past its days of glory in the 13th and 14th centuries.[2] An inscription in the temple dates it to the year 1213 AD and said to have been built by a General Recherla Rudra, during the period of the Kakatiya ruler Ganapati Deva.

The temple is a Shivalaya, where Lord Ramalingeswara is worshiped. It stands majestically on a 6 ft high star shaped platform. The hall in front of the sanctum has numerous carved pillars that have been positioned to create an effect that combines light and space wonderfully.[3] Temple is known by the name of the sculptor Ramappa, who built it. The history says that it took 40 years to build this temple.

Temple is a marvelous example of Kakatiyan creative genius, with beautiful art, intricate carvings adorning the walls, pillars and ceilings. The roof (garbhalayam) of the temple is built with bricks, which are so light that they are able to float on water.[4]

There are two small Shiva shrines on either side of the main temple. The enormous Nandi within, facing the shrine of Shiva, remains in good condition.

____________________

The temple is so stark. especially Nandi. the sheer simplicity and starkness hits you on your senses. the broken idols desecrated by invaders were left in the same condition as a reminder that 'never forget'.

i swear the moment i stepped inside the temple i could visualize the history. The queens and royalty with their entourage stepping inside the temple to offer prayers to the deity. the sounds of payal. the laughter. the colours. the life. the bygone era.

(ok i guess i am sounding positively loony here i guess).

but yes! that is my brush with history and mysticism. i could just see history there. ironic considering i visited some major forts and temples yet it took a forgotten temple to take me back in time.

so am i the only loony here or do i have a company? (say yes please).

any place where you saw the history? imagined yourself to be someone in past life? wished you could time travel? if yes then to which era and for what? (i still stake claim on kohinoor and Excalibur. and vajra).

You are not the only one, Nimmi. I too feel the same about history. Even if I hate to memorize dates and names, the "story" part has always captivated me, especially when there was a movie that I had just seen regarding that subject. My interest was at its highest level when I've learned about the American Civil War just because I've watched "Gone with the wind". I wanted to know all the details related to those times and I couldn't get enough of them.

One of my teachers used to state that many people read books or watch movies, but what makes the difference is that some of them don't resume to just these actions, but search for additional information, other books related to the subject, articles, etc. He said that only for this type of people, reading/watching a movie is an enriching experience, otherwise it is just a pure entertainment and nothing more than a waste of time. Like, if someone reads about the Amazon River in a book and does not have at least the mere curiosity to discover where it lays on a map, then he hasn't got much after finishing the book.

Even if they are not closed to the reality, these types of movies/books/shows have always motivated me to search for more information. I've learned so much only by surfing the forums dedicated to these mystical/historical shows as fortunately there are many people ready to share their knowledge and set the things right. And there are also other materials available on the net, and books as well.

The Aryan Invasion Theory is no longer believable, but the dramatic potential of such a story is huge: two clans, two different perspectives of life, two lovers destined to hate and destroy each other... I can totally understand why the makers felt the need to narrate such a story.

what a wonderful take and post Claudia.
๐Ÿค—.
totally concur.

after watching a scene depicting jauhar and saaka; i.e queens and ladies jumping in the fire pit once the war is lost lest they get captured by enemies.
and men going for Saaka. ie. stepping in a war field to fight till death an unwinnable war. suicidal mission .

it amazes me. the sheer strength of character. the steely grit. and that 'i defy death.' fearless immortal attitude.
i so wish i could time travel. there are so many events i want to be a spectator of; so many great men and women i want to see.

and yes.. same pinch. i keep stalking historical shows and mytho shows forums. the vast ocean of knowledge that people so generous share wonders me. motivates me to read, learn and unlearn the history, legends and myths.
know the past, present and future of the world a little bit better and more.

Aarambh is a fascinating story. lets hope the magical journey continues and reaches an enriching ending.

thank you for your wonderful comment Claudia.
and oye.. you missed answering my questionnaire. time travel? super power? place you sensed history and all. so i flunk you๐Ÿ˜†.
kidding.. big hugs and love.

@Nimmi, that's right. I forgot the part involving the time traveling. I had the answer in my mind, but I've got lost in school memories... I will write it down this evening as I have some urgent things to do today.

@Nimmi, about time traveling... I would surely love to have the opportunity to see closely important events from the past, but I am not so sure if I truly want to take the risk of actually being part of real events... I don't want to be exposed to who knows what dangers, lol. But, I use the power of my imagination for picturing all kinds of events from the past and for putting myself in all types of situations and I like to think how would I have acted if I had had to deal with such events. That's why I enjoy visiting museums, especially with my father as he is talkative and he also likes to imagine things so we team up to invent stories about what we see. Sometimes, only be walking on the street I start to imagine how this place would have looked thousands of years ago or how it would look thousands of years later.

Yes, a time machine will be a perfect thing, but it will be even better to be like an app with a player so I can watch "history live" without having to step in there, lol.
