as a famous person once said.. 'History is what victors write'.
i personally love history. though i loathe remembering dates, family trees, wars, more dates (to think of it our future generations will hate history lessons more for they will have to remember more dates unless there is world war 3 and we all perish. or earth says eff off to humans and explode. yeah i know i tend to have violent imagination at times.)
and yes.. i really feel strong emotions for the naatakiya rupantar of history shoved err shown by our tele lands geniuses. like 'sar kalam kardo in naamakuloke' kind of emotions.
History is such a fascinating concept.
unleashing the imagination.
the kings, the queens, the emperors, the power games, the patriotism, the traitors, the fearless, the magnificent, the cunning, the cult.
grit, glory, gumption.
blood, gore, death.
and living on forever in the history.. as a hero or a villain. but being immortal forever.
i so wish i could time travel. (besides being invisible, teleporting, ultra rich, epic awesome and other super powers.). i would love to see the history up close and personal. (maybe steal kohinoor while i am at it).
and then there is mysticism. sense of dejavu.
when i visit some old dilapidated or certain dark structures.. i get this sense of dejavu at times. hey.. i've been here before. past life maybe? i would love to think of myself as a bad ass freedom fighter in my last janam. for all i know i may have been a makkhi or macchar then.
and then i stepped into a temple where history and mysticism met.
Ramappa temple.

wiki says:
Ramappa Temple also known as the Ramalingeswara temple, is located 77 km from Warangal, the ancient capital of the Kakatiya dynasty, 157 km from Hyderabad in the state of Telangana in southern India. It lies in a valley at Palampet village of Venkatapur Mandal, in erstwhile Mulug Taluq of Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, a tiny village long past its days of glory in the 13th and 14th centuries.[2] An inscription in the temple dates it to the year 1213 AD and said to have been built by a General Recherla Rudra, during the period of the Kakatiya ruler Ganapati Deva.
The temple is a Shivalaya, where Lord Ramalingeswara is worshiped. It stands majestically on a 6 ft high star shaped platform. The hall in front of the sanctum has numerous carved pillars that have been positioned to create an effect that combines light and space wonderfully.[3] Temple is known by the name of the sculptor Ramappa, who built it. The history says that it took 40 years to build this temple.
Temple is a marvelous example of Kakatiyan creative genius, with beautiful art, intricate carvings adorning the walls, pillars and ceilings. The roof (garbhalayam) of the temple is built with bricks, which are so light that they are able to float on water.[4]
There are two small Shiva shrines on either side of the main temple. The enormous Nandi within, facing the shrine of Shiva, remains in good condition.

The temple is so stark. especially Nandi. the sheer simplicity and starkness hits you on your senses. the broken idols desecrated by invaders were left in the same condition as a reminder that 'never forget'.
i swear the moment i stepped inside the temple i could visualize the history. The queens and royalty with their entourage stepping inside the temple to offer prayers to the deity. the sounds of payal. the laughter. the colours. the life. the bygone era.
(ok i guess i am sounding positively loony here i guess).
but yes! that is my brush with history and mysticism. i could just see history there. ironic considering i visited some major forts and temples yet it took a forgotten temple to take me back in time.
so am i the only loony here or do i have a company? (say yes please).
any place where you saw the history? imagined yourself to be someone in past life? wished you could time travel? if yes then to which era and for what? (i still stake claim on kohinoor and Excalibur. and vajra).
