The first half of the year was going along pretty well until Tubelight hit the industry. This has turned a relatively decent first half into a bad one. Bahubali - The Conclusion was a stand out with over 500 crore nett business in India. The film became the biggest grosser of all time by a distance and that too without 10% of the Hindi market. Even adjusting ticket prices for inflation it will be among the top ten grossers of all time despite being a dubbed film.

This two big outright Hindi films Tubelight and Raees under performed though the latter was much better. Badrinath Ki Dulhania did very good business to close at around 115 crore nett and Jolly LLB 2 was also good while Hindi Medium was the sleeper hit of the first half of the year. Another big star film Kaabil was also a major under performer with just 86 crore nett. The top ten nett grossers of the first half of 2017 are as follows. (All collections for Hindi language only)

1. Bahubali: The Conclusion - 5,10,00,00,000 crore (expected) (still running)

2. Raees - 1,28,74,50,000

3. Tubelight - 1,16,00,00,000 crore (expected) (still running)

4. Badrinath Ki Dulhania - 1,14,11,50,000

5. Jolly LLB 2 - 1,07,17,50,000

6. Kaabil - 86,54,00,000

7. Hindi Medium - 63,00,00,000 (expected) (still running)

8. Half Girlfriend - 52,05,00,000

9. Sachin - A Billion Dreams - 43,04,25,000

10. Naam Shabana - 36,05,00,000

Raees still the highest grosser of BW Hindi releases this year 😆

Good to see a small budget film like Hindi Medium doing so well based on content. It was high time Irrfan got his due recognition at the BO.

Raess could and should've been the highest grosser of the year if it weren't for the collision with Papa Roshan and his crappy movie.

Kaabil would be 2nd if not for clash with faltu movie.
Hindi Medium, BKD & Sachin were best movies of the year.

If Kabiil was that good it wouldn't have any problem in kicking a faltu movie's ass. Instead it got it's ass kicked. 🤣 And faltu movie in clash made more money than a superishtar's critically acclaimed hit solo release. Must be some kind of achievement.

Why does Akki's hit fail to beat SRK's semihit which incidentally released with the mind blowing Kaabil which had the potemtial to be highest grosser? quite curious to know

Raees was horrendous..and if it with a clash is the highest so far..says on srk's starpower..the movie was pure garbage

BKD is my fav so far..watch it over and over and also it is the only superhit from bollywood thus far..

kudos HM..and still running..power of content..

I m sure it would hav collected much more if it clashed during Eid .. Just imagine if it clashed with TL!! 😆 😆

This only shows that SRKs starpower is still intact inspite of being in his worst phase... 👍🏼 only if he would hav the right script sense ...he would be above all Aamirs and Salmans now ..
