The first half of the year was going along pretty well until Tubelight hit the industry. This has turned a relatively decent first half into a bad one. Bahubali - The Conclusion was a stand out with over 500 crore nett business in India. The film became the biggest grosser of all time by a distance and that too without 10% of the Hindi market. Even adjusting ticket prices for inflation it will be among the top ten grossers of all time despite being a dubbed film.
This two big outright Hindi films Tubelight and Raees under performed though the latter was much better. Badrinath Ki Dulhania did very good business to close at around 115 crore nett and Jolly LLB 2 was also good while Hindi Medium was the sleeper hit of the first half of the year. Another big star film Kaabil was also a major under performer with just 86 crore nett. The top ten nett grossers of the first half of 2017 are as follows. (All collections for Hindi language only)
