Means All Time Record Opening (250Cr+) and then nearly doubling its opening 470 Cr plus - By today's trade standards this would be anything but a disappointment - Mangal Pandey was a disappointment because the trade wasn't that lenient compared to today. In fact I will say Aamir already had his Mangal Pandey moment with Dhoom 3 and we know its verdict.

I doubt it. It's Aamir's out and out commercial movie. Those who expect it to break Bahubali's record will be disappointed. No movie is reaching Bahubali anytime soon.

TOH just has to be a half-decent entertainer to do similar business to Dangal. If it's as bad as Tubelight, it would still do 200 crores due to enormous first week collections. And you have to remember that the way critics went savage on Salman and Tubelight, they won't go as far for TOH (even if it is as bad, which it won't be) - because Aamir has an image of a well-informed film-star as opposed to Salman, who's a raw megastar but not of the intellectual kind.

Tubelight was a poor, boring movie to say the least. But the way people slammed the movie overall, I don't think even Bombay Velvet went through such ruthless condemnation (by the media). That was strange.

Why bring early 90s films for comparison? For those films, release dates were not crucial (limited theatres). What mattered was, how many days it run. (In the running period might have accommodated many festivals days). Secondly, Sharukh was not a superstar during Trimurti. It was Sanjay Dutt's era. He was the lead, but he got into jail. Many refused to do his role. Finally Anil Kapoor took up. Sharukh's role was that of Varun in Dilwale. Nobody accounted him for film's failure too.
