Even, I find myself always rooting for dark characters. Despite Jennifer's amazing acting, I never connected with Maya. Earlier, I couldn't put a finger on what exactly wasn't likable about her character. First, I used to think her ardent fan-base is the source of my dislike. But now, picture is getting clearer. I don't like her using childhood abuse as a trump card and blaming everyone else but herself for her situation.
When someone drew a parallel between Katherine Pierce and Maya, I was furious. Katherine was a manipulative bi**h like Maya, but difference was she always wore her demonic nature as a badge of honor. And here Maya wails and squeeze out tears every now and then for attention. I wish CVs had given her character more depth.

This is what irks me the most about Maya! She does all her crimes cold-bloodedly but then the next minute she goes crying that people make her do this! And she conveniently uses the excuse of her being 'bimar' whenever she lands herself in a soup. No, stop using your childhood abuse as an excuse for your crimes. There are people in real life who inspite of terrible childhoods, chose to become a better person. And here comes Maya who belittles the efforts of all those people by blaming her evils on her abusive childhood. And how exactly is she different from all the criminals out there in the world?? Even they had terrible childhoods but it did not and can never be used as an excuse to evade legal punishment.

Frankly I believe the CVs themselves do not realize what they are doing. What was the need to proclaim that Maya is a grey character if you were gonna make her like this. Maya as a character has basically no redeemable characteristics. She is outright evil and inspite of getting numerous chances to redeem herself, she willingly chooses the easier as well as the most immoral ways to achieve her goals

@bold: So true.
I don't think CVs are establishing her as grey. She always meant to be pitch black IMO. They have made her cross every limits Of Indian ethics. Everything Saanjh was criticized for, she went ahead and aced it,driving all her supporters away.

But my problem is, there is nothing admirable about this psychopathic character. I have always loved such coal black characters, but she turn out to be spineless. Never owning up her actions makes me sick to my bones. I have rooted for characters who have done a lot worse than her. But, she has always made me abhor her. Maybe, it is because of her stupid and unrealistic goal to keep Arjun to herself only.
