Myra does not need rescuing

So yesterday I saw the episodes where Bhaiji kidnaps Myra, and then Kabir tries to rescue her but by then she has already turned the situation around. He is furious and accuses her of only pretending to be caring, and also discusses her with Rhea.

And Rhea suggests that Myra is not a typical girl, in that she does not pretend or flutter her eyelashes and make the man feel capable for having rescued her. She ties it up with her love life, saying that this is precisely why she's never had a boyfriend, because she's not a (typical) girl.

And Kabir continues to drink his tea and doesn't say anything 😆

One of the reasons I liked this entire narrative so much was that at some level he realised that that was exactly what he wanted - to be made much of, to be admired and for her to pretend she needed his help even when she didn't. And when he came face to face with it, he realised that a) it wasn't a great thing to want and b) he likes her because she is not like that. It was so wonderful not just to have a heroine who doesn't need rescuing, but also a hero who can realise and acknowledge that he wanted to be made a hero of, and that he wasn't really thinking about her but only about himself.

Also, I found the entire thing about transcribing really interesting. Because transcribing is secretarial work, and I'm glad that she refused to do it. But I thought it strange that he expected her to. I thought they'd show some explanation of this - that he wanted her to transcribe so that she would become familiar with his notes and they could write the article together, i.e. he was going to share a byline with her or something like that. But they haven't show any such explanation so far and so perhaps Mr. Miranda learnt two lessons after that kidnapping fiasco: a) that she is bonafide journalist and not a secretary or typist and b) she's perfectly capable of looking after herself.

I'm off to watch the next episodes 😊

One thing about Myra that I've liked is her independence. She does not depend on others to do things for her. Also she can be very frank and to the point. Interesting observations about Kabir. I did not think of it that way at all. I felt that Kabir was simply trying to help Myra. I felt like the purpose of this narrative was to show her rudeness & prejudice. She did not need to pretend to not know him at all. After that at the office, she calls him an infection when he only tried to help her. I love that he called her out for her behaviour & her fake goody goody act.

Regarding the transcribing, I do agree that it is a very secretarial thing to do, and I respected her decision to not do that. Again I felt she could be civil about her rejection. The context was that Shekhawat had agreed to help Kabir so Myra was assigned to help him. In the later few episodes you'll see that Kabir & Myra begin working together on an assignment. I much preferred the way she spoke to him in a civil, professional manner there while stating her terms & conditions.

Please keep posting. You bring a very interesting take to the table.

Interesting analysis. Now I feel like watching the previous episodes, so that I can recognise the in-depth meaning that each and every scene carries on. This is why I like this serial- they show the gender balance; women are powerful, so are men :)

Just when you think the scene would proceed a certain way, it pivots a 180 degrees. That is the charm of the show.

The way I saw it, Kabir's anger was not about being the hero and stuff, but the fact that she put him in harm's way just to prove a point.

@bold - yes perhaps they were trying to only show her as rude and prejudices, but I didn't find it so because I'm rude and prejudiced too 😆

I think that if you are a pretty and single young woman in India and trying to make it in any male dominated industry, whether journalism, advertising or such, you tend to develop a bit standoffish attitude. Being nice and helpful gets you taken majorly for granted. Also, we know that Kabir is trustworthy, but to her he is simply the guy who kept flirting with her, would not take no for an answer and who is involved in a situation that she remembers with guilt and confusion. She was never going to thaw to him quickly.

I'll try and keep posting. Sadly I have some work deadlines so I may not be able to write as much as I want to.

I quite liked that she didn't bend down. But after Kabir moves in, there are points where she became a little too mean & belittled Kabir at every opportunity. I got irked there. I have no issue with flawed female characters who are assertive & blunt. But that does not give one the right to be rude all the time especially when the other party is not at fault. Her rudeness stood out against Kabir's patience. You'll see what I mean as you watch on.
