A Humble Request to Writers:
I am not a writer just a reader, so I don't know how it feels to be one. So I am just requesting as a reader and this is just a humble request and not a demand.

Please finish the stories you have started writing. Please, pretty please. I totally understand there are multiple reasons for a writer to stop writing, like I said I don't know what it is to be a writer, I totally sympathize and also agree no one should be maligned, if that is the reason to stop writing. A reader should just stop reading if they do not agree with the writer, it is the writer's prerogative what they write.

But what about the eager reader, especially ones who have been reading a particular story from the beginning and have been totally involved with it for few months/even years and it is abruptly abandoned. We feel so lost without knowing what happened and punished for not knowing the reason for it to be abandoned...At least the story should be summarized and ended if it cannot be continued...

I have not been with IF for as many years as many of you, but have been an eager and enthusiastic reader of many stories on the IF and have tried my best as a reader to like and comment on them. I have never been negative about the writer or the story.

The reason for this request is I came across a post asking for opinion on favorite stories of readers and I remember there have been many which I had been reading regularly and then it just stopped abruptly. I felt very bad and thought that was very cruel on the part of the writer. Yes they do have rights on what to do, but they also have a responsibility to the loyal reader to finish their stories.

So please give the loyal readers a separate link if need be but Please Please finish your stories.

Once again this is just a humble request.

My thoughts exactly. I meant to request the same for a while. There are so many beautifully written stories left incomplete which I wish the writers continue.

There are many new writers who we would like to encourage too but they too update few chapters and then go away without a note.

Most readers are now reading only complete stories. The 1st question I am asked if I suggest a FF is that is it complete?

Now people are wary of reading ongoing stories because of investing into a story which may not be complete.

This doesn't augur well for any new writers.

Hope writers do complete stories.

Completely agree with you. If writers are wary of their stories getting plagiarised then they should move them to a blog where they can invite all the readers who have really followed, encouraged and commented on their work. But, leaving them incomplete is not the way to do it. What's not appreciable is when writers don't even post a small note notifying whether they will continue the story or not, or when will they be continuing it. I believe the loyal readers who have been following their stories from the beginning at least deserve that. And I believe writing stories and posting them on an online forum is a two-way process - writing them and in turn get loyal and encouraging readers and in return complete them, no matter how long it takes (of course whenever the writer gets the needed time). It's not a one-way thing where you only write and post them on your whims without taking the reader's wishes in concern. If that's the case, what's the need posting them on a forum then? It should be understood that when so many people loves your story, gets attached to them and most importantly, encourages them, that does mean something. When there a writer's block or any other reason which leads to a delay, then a note should be posted. As difficult as it is to create a story and continue it, it's also difficult for readers to not be able to read it after getting attached to it. I don't mind delays, what I don't like is putting a work on halt for an unlimited/large amount of time without any notification.
