The guy deserves respect. He was ready to stop wedding if the bride was unsure. And if he is ready to free Aru from an unwanted marriage, that shows even more goodness of character.

How it works in serials, I have no clue about but a marriage as per Hindu Marriage Act is done first and registered at Marriage Registrar office which is at Tehsil or Gram Panchayat.

Pandit cannot register it. Not in real life. Serial s show stupid contract marriage all the time. Neither Hindi Marriage Act or Special Marriage Act nor Indian Contract Act covers those kind of contracts.

They are what we call null and void.

Mishri never told him it was Aru, she jus made it look as if she was telling him so that Aru would be ok to go ahead with it. That's why Mishri didn't want Aru to go with her to speak to Mukhi , so she could dupe them both...nobody really knows what Mishri said to Mukhi.

Nothing is straight forward in Indian TV shows ...but it jus proves that Mukhi is a gentleman and wasn't interested in Dharmi's appearance or figure when first met her...or he would of known the difference in body shape anyway
