So interesting, and so true, what you said. I love this forum where so many of us, who have such different viewpoints and experiences are all still civil and respectful and still firmly of their opinions! Its a pleasure, really, and other forums should learn a thing or two 😆. I agree with you, we shouldn't stereotype wives and husbands, and everyone reacts differently to the pressures of married life and to relationships between their loves ones.
Absolutely. But I think stereotypes exist for a reason. Its like shorthand. The truth is, its easier to identify with each other if there are points in common. And yaar, let me tell you, my inbox is FLOODED with people who are too shy to post here on this post, but who have fought with their husbands or boyfriends or watched their parents fight with exactly this RHYTHM, if not this soap opera daily serial level intensity and craziness. And that makes yesterday's entire scene A DAMN SUCCESSFUL one, because it resonated and felt absolutely relatable to a lot of people and not outlandish and absurd. The execution (Champa, burning car, etc) was Shivika specific, and daily soap specific, sure. But they hit some common things, surely, if so many of us found ourselves even in this stereotypes. And speaking of stereotypes (and how those can be the DEATH of a character),My friend Ruz (NYCForever) said something important earlier, and I think it bears repeating here since we've spoken about this before, her and me, and I agree with her here-- there is a concerted effort I feel, on the part of the CVs to change their original blueprint of Annika. To turn Annika, the basic wild child characteristic of her, into something more "mainstream" and relatable. A stereotype she cannot fully be, but has she been changed? For DAMN sure. The reason? I think for their chase of the top ten bullshit. TRP aunties really would have no idea what to do with a character like Annika, the first version we all fell for. No naam, no khoon, no khandaan, and not giving a damn. Completely, wildly independant, a single mother, basically, to Sahil, a woman who literally cannot be controlled by society. That was her original character graph, and look where she has been brought after marriage--she is such a typical wife, there are a hundred of us just on this forum who recognize her in ourselves.
And we shouldn't be able to see ourselves in her!! not in the original version of her! I think Ruz's point is valid--where did that original Annika go, the one that was so unique? And did she get turned into a typical wife, to help Shivaay's characterization, and to help with domesticating the wild woman, so the TRP and the audience could see themselves in her? I dont know, but I actually think that might be true.
