Depends how you see logic...commercially speaking, Deepika is a successful superstar...where as Sonam was just a flop ( before Neerja)...so a consolation for Deepika is not warranted.

Besides if you see the history ...only rookies have been recipient of special mention...so I am inclined to believe it just an token encouragement to raise her bar

With a storyline like Neerja and the sentiment associated with the incident ...NA should have been a cake walk for any lead actress ...so my take is , Sonam Infact messed it up by a mediocre performances ( in my view it sucked)

Disclaimer - not a DP fan...DP fans will testify that...so don't give it a fan twist.

I'm sure you're aware of the fact that some actresses were extremely popular during their prime but are mostly forgoten nowadays.

Having one's down an award recipient listing at least ensure that people will choose to watch these movies if they are looking for interesting performances. It's like a stamp if you will.

Sonam messing up is you POV and I'm sorry to say it holds no value in front of her familly, colleagues and classmates validations because they knew Neerja while you don't.

If I follow your logic, then Deepika sucked in Piku as she didn't win???
Sometimes their is simply numerous great performances which make it hard to choose and Surabhi was better this year.

I beg to differ regarding the recipient of the Special Mention it's in no way a distinction specifically dedicated to newcomers.

Stamp is just the award...rest is tokenism.

Family, colleagues, classmates are likely to be biased ...for them the story is important...as it glorifies Neerja ...For sure they won't be honest enough to say Sonam sucked...which would divert the attention from the main theme...I am audience with no baggage...I have no issues speaking the truth.

you are free to think deeps sucked ...no issues.😆

Gimme the name of one seasoned actress who had special mention ...😛

I beg to disagree, it wouldn't be unheard of that a family isn't satified with the portraying of a dear one in a movie.

I've never said or implied that Deepika wasn't any good, I was only arguing about the fact that a Special Mention isn't a consolation prize when even a runner up didn't get it.

Tannishtha Chatterjee got it well into a career and she's a great actress.
