Hers is a perfect example of reel versus real life. On-screen, Shradha Sharma aka Mohini, the youngest bahu in the household in the television serial Saarthi, is a simple housewife, a total "pativrata", as she puts it. But ask her if she would be like that in real life too (were she to be married), and pat comes the response, "Not at all! If my husband misbehaves with me, I won't take it. Times have changed today, and today's women want equal rights," says Shradha. Why then, is she playing a role that goes against her beliefs? Looking at the larger picture, aren't current Indian television serials rather regressive in their outlook? "Yes, it's true, but that's the paradox of television. On TV, people are totally black or white, they are either very bad or very good. There are no shades of grey. But that's not the case in real life, after all, we all have streaks of good and bad in us! We have to demarcate between real and reel life," says the actress. After playing Ambika in Suno Har Dil Kuchh Kehta Hai she took over the role of Mohini. But both the characters are ordinary bahus. Doesn't she want to play another kind of role? "Definitely. In fact, I want to do something completely different now, something like a youth-oriented show or maybe a cricket show." But at the same time, Shradha has her head firmly on her shoulders, and will not take up work just for the sake of it. "I believe in quality over quantity. Besides playing Mohini, I do films in the South as well. I'm already doing 40 days amount of work in 30 days! I want to be the best in whatever I do, it's the quality of work that makes me happy," she signs off. |
