Chapter ~ 2
"It has been said that time heals all wounds. I do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind, protecting its sanity, covers them with scar tissue and the pain lessens, but it is never gone."
~ Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy
Gauri jerked from her thoughts as the driver applied break. She opened the door and brought her drunk sister inside the pitch dark house without creating any noise. Suddenly, the lights switched on and for a moment Gauri was frightened. Not for herself but for her sister.
Gauri turned around to see the person and exhaled a relieved breathe when she saw Padma.
"kaki aap" she was surprised to see the old woman waiting for them.
"beta ye" Padma indicated towards her sister.
"maa-papa ka mat batayiye, kaki. Bekaar mein Ashu ko daant denge" Gauri pleaded.
"main ise kamre mein le jaa rahi hoon" Gauri held her sister carefully and dragged her towards their bedroom.

The door was broken and banged loudly on contact with the wall and the visitors were aghast seeing the miserable condition of the room. Sculptures broken, the disordered cpaint bottles , canvas sheets torn. Their eyes fell on the person sitting near the corner of the room and mentally cursed the person responsible for his condition.
Shivaye, Rudra and Anika rushed towards him and engulfed him a bone crushing hug trying to soothe him.
"Om" Shivaye patted his cheek trying to bring him back to senses but Om was numb to any emotion. He had other thoughts running in his mind. He freed himself from the hug and stood up and left the room. His eyes were cold as the frozen ice.
"Om" Shivaye shouted and rushed outside with Rudra and Anika behind him.

Gauri, stroking Ashwini's forehead, recalled her conversation with their father in the evening.
"WHERE IS YOUR SISTER!" their father roared in anger.
"mujhe nahi pata" she replied calmly.
"Gauri spit it out. Kaha hai tumhari behen" he toned his voice down.
"How many times shall I repeat this to you? I don't know where she is" she replied uninterestedly.
"oh yeah! You don't know where that sharabi behen of yours is, right." he mocked.
"Mr. SHARMA DON'T YOU DARE TALK ABOUT MY SISTER LIKE THAT!" she replied fiercely.
"wo wahan hai jahan use khushi milegi, wahan hai jahan use peace of mind milti hai. Wo wahan hai jahan wo apna gam bhulaa sakti hai. I hope you got your answer"
"And by the way, why do you want to know where she is. You never showed interest on us in the past. Why so much care for us now, Mr. Sharma" she asked being sarcastic to the fullest.
"We got a wonderful marriage proposal for her from The Agarwals. They are the most affluent family after The Oberois. We are planning to have a business merger with them and if this alliance takes place then our shares are going to increase." her mom replied with a proud smirk on her face.
Gauri clapped her hands mockingly and gave a dangerous look to her parents.
"jab tak main zinda hoon tab tak apni behen ko kisi business merger ka mohra nahi banne doongi. Did you get that. Otherwise, it wouldn't take me even a millisecond to expose all your dirty deeds Mr and Mrs. Sharma" she took her phone from the table and walked away in search of her sister while Arvind and Astha stood dumbfounded with her reply.
She dropped an affectionate kiss on Ashwini's forehead.
"any problem has to face me before it reaches you, Ashu. And this is my promise. Gauri Sharma's promise it is"
Covering her properly, with the duvet, Gauri left the room locking the door.
She descended the stairs in search of Padma when her parents entered the house after a business party. She ignored both of them and went back to her room angrily.

The car came to a screeching halt and Om entered his art gallery. The small light bulbs were switched on to overcome the darkness of the room. He ransacked all the drawers and found the piece of paper he was searching for. He dropped on the ground and caressed the drawing made by him during childhood. His eyes glistened tears seeing the MY HAPPY FAMILY title. He kept the paper carefully in his pocket and wiped out his tears determined to do something.
"I am going to do this. I have to do this for my mom, my family. I can't see them breaking like this. Sorry for what I'm about to do."
He dashed out of the gallery and drove away.
