It was 8.30 PM when Dev Dixit looked up from his laptop and realised the time. He decided to leave for home. He looked at the dark room across his cabin and remembered that his beloved wife Dr. Sonakshi Bose (as she always called herself when she was angry but Dev liked to call her Ms. Bose all the time and she liked to call herself Mrs. Dixit!) had not come in to work today. As Dev shut his laptop and started packing up he picked up his phone and realised that it had been a whole day since he heard Sona's voice. She had not called him after their argument at the breakfast table today morning. Dev sighed as he picked up some papers that need to go through in the night on one hand and his laptop bag on the other hand and switching off the lights in his room he left.
He was at his home in the next twenty minutes and it was close to 9 PM by then. He walked in and placed the laptop and papers on the coffee table. He took off his jacket and was folding the sleeves of his shirt when he realised that it was very quiet when his Maa came out. "I thought I heard you come in" his maa said. "Yes Maa I just came- did you have dinner?" Dev asked sitting down on the sofa and resting his aching back. Ishwari replied "Yes - I and the children ate at 8.00 PM. I want to talk to you beta" Dev straightened and said "Yes Maa tell me..." Ishwari looked at him and said "I think what Sona is saying is right. See after all Nicky is an adult. If she has selected a guy for herself then I think we should respect her judgement and at least meet him. So what if he is an American - we should at least meet him with an open mind. I am with Sona on this". Dev looked at her stunned "What do you mean that Sona is right. Nowadays I think you all support her only and nobody thinks of me" and Dev made a sad face. His mother replies "Stop fussing and think about it. Nicky is also in her room and upset because you are not understanding her point of view. I know that you are upset because she told Sona first and not you!"
Dev looked at his mother sheepishly and said "Yes that is also part of the problem. Ok I will talk to Nicky in the morning and ask her to call Alex home tomorrow evening. Happy?" IShwari smiled at him and said "Yes very happy. Now please go and talk to Sona - she has also been very quiet today after you left your breakfast midway in the argument and went to work. Go upstairs. She is in with the children". Ishwari then went into her room for the night.
Dev cringed when he remembered about the morning and went upstairs. He left his jacket and his bag and papers and laptop in his room and went to the Suhana's room. What he saw from outside warmed his heart and he thanked he had such a great wife. Sona was on Suhana's bed leaning against the headboard and reading out a story to Suhana (lying next to her on the bed) and Golu who was lying on the other side with his head on Sona's lap. She was reading out from Beauty and the Beast. Dev had no doubt as to who the beauty was and who the beast was in his marriage. Sona continued to read softly and when Dev came in he noticed that the two children were almost asleep. Sona put a finger to her lips signalling him not to speak and he sat down quietly on the chair by the bed. Sona's voice was so soothing that Dev also relaxed within minutes. When Soha and Golu fell asleep he picked up Golu from Sona's lap and tucked him into the next bed and gave him a kiss on his head. Sona tucked in Soha and Dev and She kissed the kids and switching off the lights left the room quietly. Coming out Dev tried speaking to her but she just asked him "Will you have dinner or have you eaten and come". When he said he was hungry, she said "OK you change and come - I will lay the table". They ate in silence and though Dev made several attempts to start a conversation Sona simply replied in monosyllables and refused to reply.
Dev went up quietly to his room after dinner and Sona busied herself in the kitchen instructing Kichu bahiya for the next day's menu. Sona came up after about ten min and as she opened the door she found the room dark except for the flickering light of several fragrant candles placed by Dev around the room. She looked up at his apologetic face and said "So Dev Dixit is trying to say sorry for his abominable behaviour of the morning?"
Dev looked at her sheepishly and said "Yes I am sorry. I realise I was wrong. I was honestly a little upset that Nicky spoke to you first before she told me". Sona smiled and said "So that was the root cause of the problem!" She came to him and gave him a hug. "I am also sorry. I had such a bad day I waited for you to call me. From now on I will call you so that you cant run away from me!" and saying that she nestled her head on his shoulders. That Dev was relieved was clear and he hugged her back. He murmured into her hair "I will speak to Nicky tomorrow morning and ask her to get Alex home for dinner tomorrow. Happy now?" Sona whispered "Yes very. Now I will be more happy of you give me a kiss!" Dev smiled and lifted her head and have a soft kiss on her lips.
When the kiss deepened and when Sona started kissing him back, they both did not realise. They moved apart only to gulp in the air and drop their clothes on the floor before Dev picked her up and placed her on the bed and looked at her lovingly. Sona looked beautiful in the soft mellow light of the candles with her dark hair was against the light coloured pillow. Dev moved his eyes further down taking in her full breasts and flat stomach. He joined her in bed and they started kissing and touching each other everywhere. When they finally became one, they just held onto each other as if their lives depended on it. Later they lay against the pillows, wasted, Dev looked at Sona in his arms and said "Thank you for coming back into my life!" Sona said "Don't thank me please! I was always yours even when we were not together" Hearing Sona's deep breathing Dev realised that she was asleep and he wondered about the documents from office that he had to read. Then he told himself that if he got up now Sona would awaken and he didn't want to lose this feeling of holding the love of his life or rather his life itself in his arms so soon so office work could wait for tomorrow. Dev also shut his eyes and decided to call it a day. His last thoughts for the day was that disagreements once in a while was ok if the making up gave so much joy...
