Let me just make it known that I love Mahi. Nakuul is portraying him so effortlessly, and yet so beautifully, that I'm certain that I'm not the only one that's been left completely floored. And, I'm honestly not the biggest fan of the CVs at times, but they've really hit me hard with Mahi's characterisation.
I genuinely think that its his naivet that really endears him to me. There's a certain rawness in him that is quite unrivalled in any other character on the show, at this point. Obviously, he has many layers, but its not very hard to see through them to discover his reality.
I don't know how else to describe him, so for lack of a better word, Mahi resembles a child for me. Stuck in the body of an adult, with the face of an aristocrat who is far more entitled than he can even consider being, and a mother' who resents him, Mahi is a child. He has this sort of innocence, straightforwardness, that I only see in youth.
The fact that he shares the same face as Shivaay, and is most probably his twin, is really interesting. I actually really like this track, because the contrast between Shivaay and Mahi is so astounding. Their circumstances, personality and fates, are so mismatched that its actually painful. I read a post recently about why we aren't hating Mahi like we hated Tia, seeing as they are pretty similar in their actions, and this is what I attribute it to. Mahi's circumstances, especially in the face of what Shivaay had, are pretty goddamn terrible. He has a mother who hates him, lives in a tiny shack of a village, and no knowledge of who his father was. Overall, the guy has had it pretty tough, and while that may not validate it, it does, to a certain extent, justify it. His confrontation with Shivaay pretty much left me in tears, because he tells Shivaay exactly this. Isn't it so funny that our faces are the same, but our fates so different?
Okay, so you got my point, I really love Mahi.
Saying this, however, I'm worried. I'm already getting attached to his character, and as much as I can gage from the other posts about Mahi, you all are too. And so, as painful as this is, I'm just reiterating it so that when there's some sort of devastating ending to his character, everyone is prepared.
There is no way that Nakuul will be able to play a double role in the long-term. The actors already shoot 12 hours days, and on top of that, he's occasionally needed in the other show as well. Shooting as two different characters is a ton of extra work on him, the directors, and the editing team. Thus, there is really two ways that his story could go, and the CVs need to tread very carefully to see to it, that the story that they've set up so well isn't screwed in the process.
First option is that the CVs pull a regular Ishqbaaaz CV stunt, and give him some sort of absurd ending where they banish him, and he just disappears. Or like they did with Ayaan on QH when Vikrant Massey left, where they just shipped him off to a different country, because he was in search of other prospects. Whatever they do here, my bet is that the storyline is going to be botched, and in the next minute, Kamini will be sacrificing an animal, while Saumya is still unconscious, and ShivIka are romancing in their room.
Or, they could do what I assume they're going to do, kill him off. This is plausible (because Kamini is a psycho bitch) and they'll be getting rid of him too. There are two issues though; first off, that this guy may be Shivaay's twin so I assume that he'll be at least slightly traumatized that his twin brother was away from him for thirty years, and then, for all sakes of logic, that they'll show Pinky and Shakti upset as well. Maybe this is the underhanded shit that Shakti pulled that he was so guilty about in the beginning of the show, or maybe not. Either way, if Mahi is their child, I would assume that we would see some hurt on their part, and the whole track wouldn't be upped and finished in record time - nicely shelved away for the new villain to come and make their claim. The second big problem for me here is that the premise of this story was originally about brothers, no matter how much they've digressed. Rudra and Om are rarely on Ishqbaaaz at the moment, so I don't know how this track would be played out in a logical manner. If they were able to get them into these episodes, then the CVs would really have the potential to make O-Bro fans happy again, with a more emotional scene, like the initial episodes. Seeing the three brothers grieve together for a brother they didn't know could be extremely heart-wrenching to watch. Either way, the ball is in the CVs' court, so for their sake, I hope they choose wisely.
If things go haywire though, don't say I didn't warn you :/
