Dear Agony Aunt:

I am a 15 year old boy and in year 11 at school. I am taking my Gcses next year and i cannot cope with the pressure from my school and my parents. I am in the top set for everything which is supposed to mean that i will get A*s for everything.
The strain that i am under is unbearable. i cant sleep at night worrying about my grades, and i don't go out anymore because i dont have the time. I am at breaking point! please help me! i cant telk to my teachers because they dont understand, my parents dont take me seriously, and my friends will just laugh at me for being a geek. Your the only person i can turn to.

------------------------------------------------------------ -------------

As a Agony Aunt what advice would you give this boy?

Remember:

As an agony aunt, you would not give Personal responses or give answers that someone else can challenge. Answers written by agony aunts are of a kind that give factual information and knowledge and no point in their answer can be challenged.

So lets try and give advice here😉

And so later we can create a factfile of different problems which are common, so next time you have a problem of a similar kind you can turn to these threads anonymously if you do not feel like posting your problem yourself.😳

Dear Boy;
This is a very common problem among teenage kids like you today......But 2 things should be always kept in mind......and they make a great combination for anything.......confidence+hardwork=excellence!
If you have the feeling that everything is putting a whole lotta pressure on you.......you will have to cope with it........lil by little........time to time.........with a lot of practice.....You need confidence to boost up ur capibility........You need hard-work to have faith in your work..........without these 2.....iam afrais i will not be able to help you.......And maybe talking to ur teacher may not help........mayybe ur parents too........and this is the time where a friend is in need........good friends dun laugh at you when you sit and study at lunch........they want you 2 share ur problems wid them............and help u out as much as possible........Dont think about those other guys hu think ur a geek.......we'll see about that when they dont do so well in their exams.........and turn up with an a+! 😛

Dear boy,
first of all relax..n dont worry..remember that you are human n you too can make mistakes..so its ok..you shudnt think bout the results n study...in fact try n understand wat u r studying..think how it will be helpful to u in future...forget wat everybody expects from you...jus remember this is a phase of life n the only way to cope up with it by being true to urself...u know wat you are capable of...n you will only get wat you deserve..sitting at home entire day n studing wont get u good grades...in fact study for the limited time n then keep some time for urself...for doing things dat u like to do..dat wud relax ur mind..n will make u happy..

if u dont get any teacher's help..be ur own teacher..who better than urself can understand u better..n advice u on things that u need to improve..

ultimately jus do the best u can...n leave everything to god...u will only get wat u deserve!!! 😳 😳

Dear agony stricken boy,
I am sorry to hear about your state. Firstly panicking about what ifs about grades and exams will never help, if anything, it will add more pressure to your already existing worries. So firstly, take a deep breath and relax. Now coming to getting straight A*'s , you seem to have worked hard throughout the year and now you are giving into the pressure your mind is feeling, my advice, look at it from this perspective, you are almost there and you know with a little more hard work and concentration, you will get what you want. Second point arises from the first..its the want to excel...you have so far seem to have done excellently, so you pretty much have it embedded in your sub-concious mind to want to be the best, dont let that die down..that motivation should help you look at newer challenges with a perspective of proving yourself. However, I will advice you against a "all work and no play" regime. That never works out..because at the end, you are totally exhausted with no relaxation..try the following to ease your pressure:
Set up a time table for study for your different courses.
Set an hour or twos break per half day of study..in that one - two hour, play games, watch TV, read novels or just chill out, without thinking about studies..how tht helps is, you will start to realise you need to get back to studying..and that urge will take you back to studying for the next couple of hours..so, take breaks in your study hours...no one can get soo busy to not find an hours gap in the whole day...you have to make a routine for yourself and follow it till you have finished your exams etc.
Talking to parents and teachers wouldnt help for a single reason, that they have been there, done that, and they think, as they got over it and faired well, so will you..so there is really no point on that.
As for being called the geek, ignore such comments, because at the end of the day, you know will fair well in he exams and all tht matters is tht your grades / scores will determine where you go next and for a better and brighter future you will need good scores , so ignore their comments as ignorance...since by the time they realise that the time they spent commeting on you, you studied and they wasted and in the end, you scored higher than them..so just cast a deaf ear on them...and your true friends wil never laugh at you, but will help you and try to become like you...
One more thing..take things one at a time, concentrate on the immediate exams or challenges..dont worry about things an year from now. Take step by step actions and finish things one at a time...so that when you are the end of it, you have only that last thing to get over with.
Last but not the least, the world is a very competitive place, you have to have the edge to fight it out and you will develop that only by working hard and not giving into pressure..also a certain amount of nervousness and tension is good , that will make you thorough about all that you study and learn...
Good Luck and relax
