So the cat is out of the bag. We were all blaming Arjun all this time saying that if he hates maya so much, why doesn't he leave, but today we found out why.
So the past three years maya has been beating herself out of self-loathing and people assume the marks are made by arjun, so he has been branded a wife beater by the public, but nobody does anything about it on a legal basis because maya denies that he beats her to people, without disclosing the truth that she herself makes the marks, because she doesn't want arjun to get into legal trouble, but by only denying he beats her despite having visible marks and and videos like the party one open for all the public to see, she is pretty much leaving it to the imagination of the public to believe that he is a wife beater, but she knows unless she doesn't admit he does beat her nobody can put him in jail. Ultimately he is stuck with her due to her constantly threatening to self-harm and because she has ruined his image to the point that if he does leave her anyways, he will still be believed to be a wife beater, and she could possibly even use this to her advantage in the future against him if he chooses to leave. Quite a shocking mess he has got himself into.
Maya has royally screwed her life over though. She's willing to ruin his image in public to force him into staying with her. I think this season 2 also portrays how feminism has become a double-edged sword where even men are now vulnerable to be manipulated and victimised by women because of women being given increased rights and protections in the eye of the law. I can see now why sometimes, judicial systems fail to believe women in domestic violence and rape cases at times. Unfortunately men are vulnerable to domestic violence and rape too, although nowhere near as women, but when it happens to men, they get laughed at due to societal views on masculinity; that men cannot be raped or victimised physically...i think this is nonsense because the definition of rape/sexual assault is not gender specific.
