I Am trying to decode what is actually Tilism and Aiyyars Concept.

According to Devaki nandan Khatri, An Aiyyar (male) or Aiyyara (female) is a secret agent cum spy cum fighter. He or she is expert in many arts like:

  • Disguise
  • Fighting skills
  • Spying
  • Science
  • Fine arts
  • Medical
  • Chemistry

Disguise is must (Aiyyar/a may change him/herself into person of same or even of opposite sex but of resembling body built, by makeup).
Fighting skills are also must, for self-defence. An Aiyyar/a always overpowers any small group of ordinary soldiers.
He/she may need to spy for taking out some secrets or for finding some missing persons.
Knowledge of science and fine arts is also necessary, as it may come handy many times.
Medical knowledge, and specially that of Anaesthesia is needed for him/her.
Chemical knowledge is also needed

In a nutshell an Aiyyar is a Jack of all trades. But contrary to common belief, Khatrian Aiyyar/a are unfamiliar with magic and spells. He/she may join into any king's or landlord's service or may remain free.

The items must for an Aiyyar/a: Kamand (a long very strong cord used to climb over building secretly, or for tying opposite Aiyyar/a or captured person/s) Batua or purse (used to keep necessary medicines, makeup items, money and dry fruits) Lakhlakha must also be in the 'Batua' (lakhlakha is a kind of smelling salt used to revive any unconscious person) Khanjar or dagger (for safety and for attack) Langot or short smart pants are usually worn by male Aiyyars when in easy mood

Ethics of Aiyyars:
Never kill or torture any other Aiyyar/a (but can arrest him/her)
Never cheat your master
Never attack too many Aiyyars over a single person

Nice... I don't know how closely the novel followed these ethics of Ayyars. But since there will be a ongoing fight between Viru's team vs Marich's team. The Ayyars of both team will be against each other too.
Maybe our show will bend some rules regarding these ethics.
As of now, they mentioned that Ayyars cannot kill each other and neither is any human allowed to kill an ayyar. But when the whole tilisam thing becomes open to public, then Ayyars will have to choose a side between ChaVi and Shivu-Marich team, and at that point they might be allowed to kill the opposite team (just an assumption)

Badri is already after CK's life, there's no disguise/chemistry and all, there's magic and tej singh can even read human's mind using magic, so i don't think they will keep aaiyaras concept same as in the book. They already made it total opposite because with magic they can add alot of suspense to the plot.

See if you look at the present show what I feel is more than the real description of Aiyyars and Aiyyara in the book, they have kind of used it Harry Potter style with magic and all. Also the concept is also set similar to the Harry Potter concept of wand chooses the wizard. Mareech looks more or less You know who of Harry Potter 😆😆

I guess magic can create more suspense.
But Aiyyar concept is devikai nandan Gatri s creation for his Chandra kanta.
It was that time's creation. A hundred years ago. With science and logic of alchemist.
But now with vfx and technology magic is more useful.

In South Asian countries like India China Japan Korea which has lot of knowledge of medicine and fine arts inherited from past.
West has only magic.
But eastern nations are more knowledgeable.
We have Ayur Veda a five thousand year old medicine sciences
We have our own fighting method which our ancestors developed. Chinese developed karate Kung Fu. It is their country pride.
So as medicines and other arts.
Aiyaar concept is derived like this.
Not by magic.
But since harry Potter came every body wants only that.

Yes Whitewitch, actually it is not completely magic. Mind reading and all is completely there in ancient books. JK Rowling used many fancy names for those concepts which the east had long back in their knowledge.

Have watched 7 arivu.
Fact or myth I tend to believe nooku vamam or hipnotizam is our art.
But saddest part is they now credit it is theirs.
Our mythology is a treasure. Only we lack good writers to explore that treasure
