What if Arjun was the one who was obsessed and controlling with a bad past and some illness?Would his wife have abandoned him, flirted or tried to kiss other people or wanted a separation? No ways .The wife would have fought the whole world ,found out the best of doctors in world, kept fasts till death😆 and god knows what all to save her husband.Because as per Indian TV that is a wife's duty but not husband's.No i didn't want Arjun to got unrealistic lengths to help Maya but atleast some thing.Like i said if the roles were reversed will the wife really be behaving the way Arjun is .No ways

Generally (both on India TV and US) we get stories where the flawed/arrogant/bad male character falls in love with this simple, nice ,goody two shoes female character who then changes the guy into some one better and even good. Then the guys true love for this simple nice girl redeems him. Most of the stories are this only and lets be honest we do like these stories where no matter how terrible the guy has been we want the girl to change him.I mean even centuries old murderous vampires change because of love of a girl.😆Just saying hope you guys get my point.

But we rarely ever get a love story(i know few on US TV but none on Indian TV) where the girl is flawed/bad/arrogant and the guy is simple and nice and the guy changes the girl or the girl gets redeemed because of her love for this guy.I mean we never get this.Because on Indian TV female characters can either be great and 'Mahaan' and ever sacrificing or just be vamps and villains there is no middle ground.

I was really hoping Beyadh would change this. That we would get for the first time a bad girl and good boy love story where the female character is grey and then it ends with her redemption. But no like i said Indian CV's know only two things either female character is Mahaan and sacrificing like they tried to show Maya after marriage or they are villains like they are trying to show Maya now.

Excellent post. That's what I said in other post too.

I like the current track since that's what I signed up for to see Maya's obsession. My only reason is they might make Maya villain, and that's not what they promised. So it's hard to watch the show in peace knowing most likely they will give a wrong message on so many levels and make the female lead as a villain. What will be the difference between this show and other shows then? We have already seen thousands time villains as obsessed with the other lead and after them for love, and the white character comes and save the lead except that here Saanjh isnt even white yet they think she is. And they call this unique when we see this everyday on other shows.
There are many happy with this track as for them this will mean Maya is a villain and their Saanjh can be the herione and they can get Saajun as end game. They are used to typical Indian shows and want the same here. They can't handle Mayas character as grey, so for them she's a villain and if she's not right now , they want her to turn that way.

However, some are genuinely happy with this track as for them that's what they were promised with which I am happy too, but they don't get why some like me are at the same time complaining even if we like the track. It's for the exact same reason that CVS are trying to make the show like other shows and diverting away from what they had promised. Showing obsession is fine as we want that and we're promised that but not at the expense of Maya's character and the show's concept. Majority don't want Maya as a villain. This show runs by Maya and her character. And if they ruin that to make her a typical villain, the show will be gone too and become a typical Indian show where we see vamp after the male lead for love. The show will be completed gone by then.

And like you said, if the roles were reverse, I can bet majority wouldnt want the wife to leave such a husband and change him like we have seem thousand of times in other shows. But when the wife has problems, many want the husband to leave the wife and even justify physical abuse. Honestly, I don't blame Arjun except the part about physical abuse and all. Anyone in Arjun's place would feel suffocated. But I don't understand why is he not taking her to a doctor or getting her helped. He's her husband and that's the least he can do instead of abusing and torturing her like that. That's sick and low. Seeing Maya's condition, she doesn't even know she's doing anything wrong. For her it's normal to love her husband that way, so how can he torture her when she doesn't even think she's doing any wrong and thinking she's just loving him. What were those promises for? Is this what his so called love for? But then I could expect this from him. He used to manhandled Vandana and Saanjh too and did the same with Maya once in office. That's why I used to hate those scenes even though Vandana and saanjh were wrong and Sanjh deserved that slap and more but from her mom, not from Arjun. I knew at those times he will be the same with Maya too if he can do to them whom he has know for life. He loves himself in the end and doesn't know how to work for the problems when they arise. He instead wants to run away, gets angry, have ego, and all.. Remember how he had all the dreams of being successful and rich but just didn't want to work for it. He would quit the jobs for one reason or another. It was mentioned in the beginning of the show by Saanjh and she had to drag him to stick to his new job. He basically just wants an easy life, don't want to work for anything, and just don't want any stressful situations to deal with. Basically an immuture, egoistic, and shallow guy.

Excellent post. If the roles are reversed, Maya would do everything to heal him. Even if he has hidden the fact & married her, she would still be loyal to him. This is how the Indian women are! The Indian women are known for their dedication. That is the reason why even the foreigners prefer them. They cling to their spouses no matter how they treat her be it like a doormat or beating or manhandling. In the current track, Maya's obsession is seen but the positive side of this obsession is her loyalty and dedication. She is dedicated to him though she is controlling him and keeping an eye on every petty thing like installing the cc camera in the entire house including the restroom. Even the restroom is not spared. I know this is too much and it is very much toxic that makes Arjun suffocate and break off everything. But loyalty and dedication are there. Plus Arjun is getting all the materialistic things here. He always wanted a luxurious life and was ready to to to any extent to get it. Now, it is the same person who wants to get rid of Maya who is giving him what he wants though his movements are restricted. The question is if Maya divorces him, will he hand over her property to Maya or leave her without returning her property? She can leave Arjun if she makes up her mind. One of her dialogues, log yahan apni marjee se aate hain lekin mere marjee se jaate hain. It means that she will leave him only when it comes to her heart. So this is the similarity between the original role and the reversed role. So if Arjun was facing these issues, Maya would still be dedicated to him.

what's obsession?

Not talking about this forum but generally people love how Edward stalks Bella ,how he keeps staring at her while she sleeps in Twilight. That is passion, great and true love.

People even ship Chrisitan Grey and Anna from 50 shades of Grey no matter how terribly he treats Anna.

If these guys after their obsession or passion whatever one wants to call it can get love and happiness then why not a female character who is obsessed or has flaws get love and happiness.

I am telling you this is nothing got to do with Indian psyche but its a universal thing.

I have no issue with Saanjh .She is normal and fine. But i hate this bias where grey male characters can get redeemed but grey female characters must be unhappy and die.

There is a difference in being grey and being a villain.Unfortunately when it comes to female characters CV's cant draw that line.

So when u don't accept when male character stalks and harasses female how would u accept a female doing the same.
Whether a male or female the relationship is toxic.

@sabyata watch South Indian movies in Malayalam or Tamil of late 80s, 90s, you will really see strong female characters. Even the Hindi shows of 90s had strong female characters. By strength I dont mean the obsessive perception of strength of a character like Maya, but really strong women who takes decisions.
Indira of Panchagni has no remorse for killing. She murders and walk to jail because a marriage or love cannot force her to turn her eye towards the injustice happening in front of her.
Ganga of perumazakalam signs petition of mercy for the man who killed her husband, unmindful of the social ostatraceization because she thinks that is the right step.
Priyamvada of Kasturiman runs a home with her income, studying, fighting her good for nothing brother in law and it is the fight that she makes, make Sajan fall for her and his wait for her to come after the jail also stems from that selfless love. He knew why she had to murder.
Samsaram oru Minsaram Lakshmi tells she can no longer be part of joint family in the climax and decides to stay seperate. It is one of the most applauded movie winning National Award for Best Popular Film
Shymala of Chinthavisthaya Shymala who asks her husband to get lost when he comes back to her after going for some ashram leaving her and 2 kids. Again movie won National Award for Social Issues
Saira Bhanu of Bombay who asserts her identity as a Muslim when her husband tries to hide it telling her name as Bhanu

Yes they wives, mothers, sisters but they were women above all with independence

How much I remember Phir Wohi Talash a show of 90s where the leading lady Padma unties her mangalsutra, gives to her husband and go back to her lover telling she cannot live with her husband. And her husband he allows her. No acid thrown or any rubbish like that.

This door mat female character and alpha male thing started in hindi shows with Ekta Kapoor Kyunki Saas bhi kabhi bahu thi. This mahanta ki moorats are shown. Even Indian mythology doesnt give any doormat Miss Goody leading ladies. Sita refuses to go to Ayodhya back after her banishment. She questions the society and Ram before going back to earth. Panchali dares the entire Kurusabha with the question on dharma. No one could stop her when she takes help from Krishna. She doesnt sit and cry my husband decided it so I am abiding by it. I will be a slave. She asserts her power as queen. Rukmini runs away from the mandap with Krishna. Savithri fools Lord of death and gets Satyavan back. Durga kills mahishasura. And that battle is one of deception where the Goddess come as a beautiful bride and offers to marry Mahisashura if he can defeat her. And our shows give garbage leading ladies. It is a pity the Land of Rani Lakshmi Bai and Indira Gandhi shows their women so pathetic in TV shows.

Saanjh has not seen the fire and doesnt know what it means to be roasted in it. Maya has seen it, unfortunately in her effort to deal with it she is burning herself. At this point Saanjh and Maya cannot be compared. That is my moot point. When Saanjh faces the fire how she behaves is what we need to see. Only that behaviour will set her apart from Maya.
At this point I see her wanting to move on, not yet moved on. She has her feelings, but since in front of the world she has to be good that is what her parents have taught her she is doing certain things. Her sincerity is not 100%.

Now if someone ask me because Maya burned everyone should burn. Need not be. But if you have to make judgement on Maya you have to burn. You have to travel her path or understand her path completely before jumping to conclusions. I am not telling anyone who travels Maya's path will take her choices. But that is what you have to show. Under similar circumstance your choice is different. Till then Maya is bad, Saanjh is good is like comparing chalk and cheese.

Bold -but when did i say that i accept or don't accept?

My post is about universal treatment of grey male characters and female characters. How they are written or shown in various mediums nothing about my personal opinion.Universally, grey male characters do get redemption and happiness when they fall in love but grey female characters rarely get that chance. This is a fact not an opinion.

Now for my personal opinion i like any normal girl i do like bad guy good girl love story😆.Yes may be not to the extend of other's like i can never ship Christian grey with any one but there are relationships that i ship in which male character is grey or has done terrible things and female character is good..So i do like those stories but i just feel that a bad girl good boy love story will be something different.Since its very rare to read about it or watch it onTV. Personally i prefer flawed characters to perfect ones as i relate more to flawed characters male and female both.

@sabhayata even I prefer imperfect characters both male or female. Because human nature comes in them mostly.
