I knock on the door to the apartment.

There is a long wait but eventually I hear shuffled footsteps coming to the door.

My heartbeats raise as she opens it.

Geet!

Her name is music and sound that stirs the soul but her eyes are vacant; all the life having seeped out from them.

These are the eyes I love, the face like an angel; the girl I had falled in love with the day I had moved here about three years back.

For about three years this face was a masterpiece; glowing so bright I could perhaps see it from space if I was there.

I did not even regret her time with him, the one who was her reason to live.

He made her happy; any fool could see that. There was no hope left for me but I was happy for her.

Seeing her down in her depths, forcing herself to breathe again has caused me more pain than I could endure.

Giving up my crushing shyness, I had finally found a way to reach out to her.

The paper boy was the only one who knew that I ordered two sets of papers and even he did not mind.

I awkwardly offer her the newspaper roll, "Wo paperwale ne phir se meri balcony mein daal diya".

She nods. The tall fair man with wavy brown hair is her neighbor, Dev Khanna.
Just like the rest of the world, she does not see him. She sees nothing these days.
She has a confused expression, " .. pata nahi paper kyu de raha hai. Maine order bhi nahi kiya hai. Thank you Dev".

She takes the paper from me.

I reach down and hand the milk packets that are by her door in a plastic bag.

Her fingers touch mine as she reaches for them.

The spark startles her as it does me and our eyes meet.

Is this the moment that she finally sees me?

If Only You Saw Me...

Could not resist Shika 😃
I have a strange inability of dealing with hopelessness.
Please don't mind.

You are the very best. You know that right?

To be very honest, I was half in the mind of hinting at a new entrant in her life, but for some reason, let it be at that, and i am super glad i did, since I got to read this awesome continuation.

Thanks Avi, for always trying to prick up the broken pieces in any sad story I write and trying to fix them with your love.

You know I do not mind it. In fact it is quite the opposite.

Coming to your story, Dev (Let it be Abhinav Shukla please?) is adorable. How different both the men are, yet, how essential both are at the respective phases of her life!

One who would punch the other person in a heartbeat, the other trying to apply balm to a broken heart.

I really hope she finds it in her to believe in love again. And I really hope Dev doesn't give up.

Thank you for this Avi. You are a gem of a writer and a gem of a person🤗

It was so sad...

I prolonged reading it as I read the end first.

It was melancholically beautiful, the sweet memories of their past.

res

hello ms.bing.

I have been racing against time to read all your one shots all these days but trust me, something or the other just keeps popping and i procrastinate the reading🤢

and finally, I started off with this. But before I start rambling, i just want you to know that I have a thing for sad and beautiful things...and this story to me, was beautiful. Of course, I won't say anything against it being a sad one because I loved it to bits. The Black and White Picture...

the name was intriguing so I started off with this shot first out of the lot and am so glad I did.
You are a wonderful wonderful writer.. but that you hear all the time, don't you?😉
The dahi-handi... so well portrayed... the zeal, the pranks and the fun...I could visuallize it right in front of my eyes. And then amidst the crowd they meet...and the subsequent meeting up is a treat to read..

But of course the sudden demise of Maan came as a surprise and may be i might sound a little cold, but I didn't feel sad for him. Everyone has to die...sooner or later but you know what pinches? The state of people who are left behind... the ones who have no choice but to pass every single day in the hope of finding them back, knowing the fact that it is only but a wishful thinking. Jaane wala chala jaata hain lekin jo reh jata hain...only he/she realizes the pain of death of a loved one.
Sounded depressing?😆
But then this also comes with experience😆
wonderful write-up
will catch up with the rest asap.😳

Avi, reading your continuation reminded me of one of the first pieces I had ever read of yours. In Life Partner, by Palindrome, where you created the eternal Raj and Kiran. I've been a fan of your writing ever since then and this piece was only another feather to your hat. It was a beautiful way to continue a story as heartbreaking as this piece of Shika's writing. Loved both the pieces and now I won't ever be able to think of this piece of writing as just ending at where Maan dies. ❤️
