@Bold: Agree. Even with a back story and a compelling reason for the situation that she was in, as well as her reasons for being a con, no one was willing to cut her slack. I was not watching the show at the time, but later started on Hotstar (coz I view from overseas). I had seen many posts on the forum about what a terrible person she was etc etc. So no she was never given any real leeway for being grey or for having reasons for being the way she was. She was just "not good enough" for a Male lead. In the end, they scrapped her and brought in someone really "good". (Of course the Ishana story was not well executed, but I get your point that she did have a back story and a family, a gambling alcoholic father, and people threatening her sister's life for money, but none of these were good enough reasons for her to venture into the wrong path).
When the first articles and rumours of Sumya being grey came out, I even saw comments that she is married to one of the ML's so how can she be grey etc? As if marriage is supposed to change our entire focus in life, and our own family and whatever identity we had before doesn't matter anymore? Clearly Sumo has "reasons" for whatever she is doing. Does marriage to Rudra now change all her loyalties? Do ML's change all their loyalties after marriage? Then why should an FL be expected to do that?
I think people need to give this track a chance before jumping on the "She's not good enough for our beloved ML" bandwagon. (This is coming from a die hard Rudra fan BTW). But I dont like this double standard of judging men's bad actions and women's bad actions differently. Everyone has equal rights to be bad! Bad is the new Good, so why cant Saumya be bad for once? 😲
