The thrill-less thriller

There are thrillers and then there are thrillers...As someone who has seen a lot of this genre I can say that there are generally 2 types of thrillers , one where the audience knows and one where the audience does not. To elaborate further in most of the thrillers, either:
1. Audience does not know: They mislead the audience into believing that something is happening (or someone is the culprit) to only reveal in the end that something totally different is actually going on (or someone totally unexpected is the culprit).

2. Audience knows: The culprit or situation is revealed to the audience but hidden from the characters and the whole "thrill" element comes from watching the truth unfold in front of the other unsuspecting characters.

Gone girl had a mixture of both these elements where initially we were mislead about the truth and then the truth was revealed to the audience but hidden from the characters.

I was hoping the show was going as per point 1 where they were misleading us into thinking its Maya but the actual culprit was someone else , but ever since the Jhanvi falling from the godown episode they are making it pretty obvious its Maya 😕 . Her manipulations are out in the open again. So then are they going as per point 2?? No, not exactly because while they heavily imply that it's Maya they have still kept the identity of the culprit hidden so they still have the option to show it's someone else. Also, Vandana and the inspector already think Maya is the culprit, Jhanvi probably already knows and Saanjh will very soon reach the same conclusion. So then is the remaining show going to be about "Arjun" figuring out the truth?? How boring is that!!

Seeing how careless and inconsistent the CVs are with something as basic as age and time I don't trust them to pull the rug from under my feet and surprise me in the end.
Which is why I hope its MPD so that there is some surprise, unknown element still left. Otherwise it's like they are giving us all these hints that it's Maya, yet not saying it out loud and in the end they will say "Surprise..the killer is Maya"..And we will be like DUH!!!! 😳

Also, can they please make at least one of the leads more likable and rootable (i know it's not a word) again..

Maya is still my fav character and they made me sympathize and root for her for a long time but then now they start turning her into some psychopath who kills people at a drop of a hat for the stupidest of reasons and shows no remorse or guilt. She is fast approaching the point of no return and nonredeemable area making it increasingly difficult to wish for a happy ending for her. Please CVs show us something redeemable to make people root for her again. (I still root for her but then that's because she is the only one making the show interesting)

Arjun is a douche bag, who is irresponsible, inconsiderate and selfish towards everyone in his life. He really does'nt respect any relationship he has and takes almost everyone for granted. Right now he is the least likable character for me (Kushal's acting does'nt help either) and I don't care two hoots if Maya makes him suffer because honestly he deserves it for being this thick headed.

Saanjh might be the most normal character of the three leads but her total lack of self respect and self worth is annoying me. She has everything going for her, loving family, good job etc so then why she is still hanging around Arjun is beyond me. Just let Arjun deal with his own problems woman, why do you want to break you head over it. ?? He's just not worth it. It's very unrealistic that a girl will involve herself to this extent in the life of the guy who rejected her and who she still has feelings for. I want Saanjh to have a happy life but I see her getting stuck with whatever is left over in Arjun after Maya's done with him.

I am really hoping that the CVs have something up their sleeve to surprise us and turn the story and characters around because I'm not "feeling" it now.

*nods* Agreed. I don't trust the CVs at all to take us by surprise in the end either. 😆 Although, I can at least watch the show in a better frame of tolerance now because Maya's back to being her best accurate self.

U just voiced my opinion... 1st dy made us like Maya n now d way showing things, itz hard to root for her n unfortunately she is d only character dt draws d audience. Dy r making her unredeemable. Moreover after d so called suspense, if dy say Maya is d killer, wtz d thrill in dt?
Every character in dis show is grey, so itz hard to root for anybody else. Rest all had a good childhood n hv good family , so v cant even justify their actions.

My only hope is Ayaan... i hope somehow he shows Maya d right path.

You're absolutely right. It's not like the show always made sense. Only Saanjh made sense and continues to do so. Even if Saanjh wants to move on, it's invariably Maya and Arjun who drag her into their own lives. Therefore I wouldn't say she doesn't have any self respect. The writers always manage to justify her actions one way or the other.

If not for Jennifer, I wouldn't even be watching this trashfest.

Awesome post... I agree with every word there... especially abt Arjun and saanjh.

even I hope Ayaan has much more important role to play here... I have a feeling there is gonna b something btw Ayaan and Maya in future...the guy genuinely cares for maya... he seems to be totally irritated by the whole stuff happening right now...

Yeah!!. Maya being badass makes the show more fun to watch but the mystery quotient is really lacking IMO, whiich is very important in a thriller. A thriller needs to keep us on our toes guessing but this one just lays everything out there. 😛😆

Agreed. Maya is the only interesting character in the show so to take away all her redeeming qualities is doing a big injustice to her character arc till now IMHO.

The rest of them have not had anything really bad happen to them in their lives except maybe Arjun coz he lost his parents. The only bad thing in their lives currently is their stupidity which makes them fall for all of Maya's manipulations 😛

I can't root for someone because they were stupid enough to not realize what was happening around them, so yes right now I really can't root for anyone completely.

Haven't watched the show for a few weeks, so just wondering whether they've indicated that Maya is the killer?

Maya is the killer? m still not sure of that.. or maybe its my bias speaking.. she's the only character who is able to evoke reactions in me -good or bad so I am rooting for her.. I had always doubted Arjun..have said this earlier too.. even if he is not the scheming and plotting murderer..he comes across as a very shallow character.. being ambitious is not wrong but u gotta work towards it.. he got everything on a platter.. be it job or relationships and he takes both for granted.. no words for Saanjh.. despite being the saner, seemingly selfless person I fail to understand her actions.. didn't she promise her mother that she will stay away from Arjun? Then why the hell has she taken it upon herself to solve every freakin problem in Arjun's life.. calling him over to discuss his family issues? really? when he himself doesn't care? Its unrealistic and thats the reason I can never identify with Saanjh no matter what she does..

They sure are making it look like Maya is the killer and frankly I don't trust the CVs to be able to totally surprise everyone and show that the actual killer was someone else. I don't think they are capable of pulling such a long con where they will be able to go back and explain everything that has happened and justify another person actually being involved. But if they do manage to do that then I for one will be happy because like you said Maya is the only character that interests me and I would like to have some scope for her redemption.

I agree about Arjun. Like I said in my post I absolutely dislike his character.

Saanjh, I sort of agree with you. She is nice but I just can't relate to her.
